Forums - Sony Discussion - Uncharted 2 ? Over hyped ?

I never played the game but I got the chance to play the beta. I think people are overhyping the graphics of the game. I think there are plenty of other games that deserved GOTY award.

with every anticipated or exclusive game always come with more hype than what the game actually delivers. in the case of U2, yes it was a tad bit over hyped, mostly due to people glorifying how great the graphics were and its blockbuster movie effect(though there's wrong with that IMO) but I think my $60 on U2 was well spent, still playing MP.

Most definitely, when I got through it all I felt like I had just watched a mediacore action movie.

Graphics? wonderful

Gameplay? fun, but repetitive, i never got bored though.

Whoever said popcorn game hit the nail on the head, thats exactly what this is. It's good yes, i give it 9/10, but come on it wasn't THAT amazing.

Also the first few hours played out almost exactly the same as National Treasure.

Flynn = Ian
Drake= Nicholas Cage

If i compare some of the scenes where Drake talks about history, I swear I was watching national treasure 3!

I agree. Can anyone name any well publicised, highly anticipated, exclusive game that 100% of gamers will agree wasn't overhyped?

Even 80%?

None. Such a game doesn't exist.

Every big game will be considered overhyped by those who honestly believe it is overhyped but mostly by those who don't like the genre, the console it is on etc.,

Speaking for myself I don't think U2 was overhyped.

Then again, that was easy as I am not the kind of person that buys into hype.

I am always wary of games scoring greater than 9.5/10 because I found out a while back that they rarely deliver.

I am going to be that guy and say it was under-hyped. From my experience with the game, it was completely worth day 1 purchase, and yet had maybe 1/10th the hype we see from other big titles.

No, it's a game that actually delivers. And to the people calling it a mere 'popcorn flick' what game isn't? No game these days reinvents the wheel. They only make incremental improvements on already established ways of playing.

When I call it "popcorn gaming" I don't mean that it doesn't innovate(it doesn't though). I mean that it is really a "ride." You don't have to be very intricate or clever, and you don't have to work to hard to get the full enjoyment and experience of it.

Also, I'm not an Uncharted 2 hater, I just have a hard time putting it in the same league as Fallout 3, Final Fantasy VII, Chrono Trigger, and MGS4, and I don't see how anyone could call it their favorite game of all time. :P

I wasn't specifically targeting you. It's just that the 'popcorn flick' thing comes up alot and it was highly coincidental that your post contained it.

And in regards to placing the games next to eachother, I have no such difficulty. :P

none the less I love Uncharted still, can't wait for the film.
