Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why Nintendo DS COSTS SO MUCH ?

none retailer here has lite they all sell DSi just for the more money and they already have adverts for the XL

Then buy it online or buy it second hand... it's not as if it's a disc based machine that you have to worry about for 2nd hand purchase.

Price to value ratio is relative.

With the DSl still selling in record numbers, price is clearly not a prohibiting factor. Considering that the majority of DSl buyers area already in the mass market and extended market audience (to whom a lower price would be used as a carrot to entice more casual purchases), there isn't any need.

Won't happen until sales plateau and dip significantly YoY. I don't see that happening any time soon.

OP sounds like another case of "X product isn't worth X price at retail for ME personally, so X company needs to lower the price."

I find it difficult to believe, DSL market is still stronger, there in Italy there are so many offers for DSLs and you can easily find it at 99€ (119-129 is the full price). And there's not a date for XL so why there are adverts for it?

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Personally, I'm leery about buying any portable unit second hand; it has nothing to do with whether it uses optical media. Used optical media being scratched is about the only real issue there.

Any portable can easily be dropped, sat on, or damaged in a way that might not immediately keep it from working until it takes another knock, etc.

A used DS could easily have a scratched or damaged screen due to the resistive type touch interface.

But the bigger issue has to do with the fact that any portable is also the controller. So unless you are in the habit of buying used controllers (which can be worn out), I wouldn't recommend used if you plan on using/playing it heavily for years.

Of course you can always buy a new replacement when the price drops and or features are added down the line.

yes my psp has fallen from a 5 meters high and only the battery got out from it and it was working perfect

As far as game libraries go, both the DS and the PS2 deserve to be sold at release prices.

$30 is no biggy if you want what the DS offers.

I could get a used one off US Amazon right now for $89 with shipping costs included.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

because it still sells the most at that price

When people are used to Sony selling their consoles at a lose, it's hard to justify buying from Nintendo with them making huge profit.
