WHO CARES. They're both great games in their own way, though 2-D Mario is my favorite series of all time, so I tend to lean towards it.

I think we can all agree that when it's all said and done, NSMB Wii will be > than Modern Warfare 2 in worldwide sales, so does Reggie's bet really matter?

The terms of the bet are so damn confused that I think everybody should just forget it entirely.

No theyre not

"Absolutely. I say that unequivocally," Reggie said in response to host Geoff Keighley's question of whether New Super Mario Bros. Wii could outsell Modern Warfare 2 even on a single platform. "On one particular platform? I do believe so." Keighley clarified that he meant it would sell more than on 360, and Fils-Aime agreed.

"Now, you've got to give me the entire holiday selling season," he continued. "So let's take it all the way through the January NPD data. I'll take that bet." He did agree, though, that it will be a close fight.

Reggie said super mario bros wii will sell more than xbox360 MW2 according to NPD data November, December, January

Current numbers (November only)
360 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 . 4.20 million
WiiNew Super Mario Bros. 1.39 million

So NSMBWii has to sell and extra 2.81million units over the December and Janurary NPDs to win the bet, Its certainly possible though I wouldn't put money on it

July 2009 daveJ saidTrue the wii has a large lead now but by 2017 the most likely result will be 1. ps3 2. xbox360 3. wii <-- wii's successor launched in 2011 effectively killing sales of the wii

You should have read what had been posted on the previous page.

Instead you seem to have quoted yourself bizarrely and used your own quote to justify your point.

'On one particular platform, I do believe so.'

The arguments over the bet are kind of weird, and almost certainly pointless.

Under the stated terms, no, he's not going to win his bet.

Do you think he gives a shit? The answer is also no! He's going to laugh all the way to the bank when NSMBWii outsells the 360 version in the states further down the line.

I agree the whole argument is pointless, but what I find really funny is how people bend what actually happened to represent their point of view (with the latest example being daveJ quoting I don't know who but certainly not what was actually said in the video...)

Davej, I advise you listen (as previously mentioned, before you posted...) to http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/77?ch=1&sd=0 starting from 4:20 . It is not exactly what you quoted, there is a reason people interpret the "bet" differently.

As to why Reggie even took this bet (that was clearly pushed on him, it's not as though he came with the intention of making it) -  I guess if he would have resisted, Gametrailers would have made a spin on that as well - "Reggie afraid to bet on NSMBWii's sales chances". So from a PR point of view it's better that he took the bet against anything the cocky  interviewer suggested.

Oh, they're not confused? Then why is it that why every time this subject comes up, we have people saying Reggie said one thing, others who claim he said another thing, and still others who say that it's open to interpretation? Some people aren't even clear on whether we're looking at US sales or worldwide sales, or whether 'January NPD' means the December data released in January or the January data released in February.

Looks like the definition of confusion to me. Seems like no matter what happens, everybody will find an excuse to claim victory.

I agree giving the bet undue amounts of attention is pointless and it's of very little importance at all, but I just don't like to see people putting words in Reggie's mouth.

People that are interested should just go to http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/77?ch=1&sd=0 and watch the actual discussion themselves, draw their own conclusions, and get on with their lives.

I really don't give a damn as to what Reggie has to say about shit.
