90+ on Metacritic isn't what determines AAA status.

QFT

You can't deny that NSMBWii is a "AAA" (man I hate that term so much) game. If it is as good (if not better) than Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros 3 (as many claim) and doesn't qualify as "AAA", then the system is beyond messed up.

Besides, in my mind, the Wii has already matched the GC in terms of quality titles. Some of them are yet to come out in the west (Tales of Graces, or Monster Hunter for example) but they are waiting to be released.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit

Should have put 90+, you know how some people live to moan on here!

Um I'm not sure, 3 years in and it's at 9, it needs to more than double that in a lesser timeframe.

It will have a longer life than the Gamecube though so it has that going for it.

I consider NSMBW an AAA title yet it just lacks below 90 because of some sour whiny reviewers.

Having played through the majority of this game now I couldn't agree more.  I was actually prepared to be less than impressed by the game given the overall reception but it's just awesome and I love it, it's at least the equal of old 2D Mario.

OT: We can argue about what AAA means but I would think the OP would then just change his question to "Will the Wii pass the GC in # of 90+ Metascores". I said 'no' and I think the main difference is the third party and sports  games.  The Gamecube didn't get alot of support but what it got was very good and it would seem that sports games in general are on the decline review-wise.

Some people have missed my point

Quality itself is not an indicator of AAA status. Budget and marketing emphasis is.

Yes, Lair and Haze were AAA titles

That is how meaningless it is in reference to quality.

AAA may have meant that a couple of years back, but you know full well what it means (especially around here) these days. Haze and Lair were not AAA.

The misappropriation of a phrase by a small subset of the population does not change a definition. It's a business term. That's still what it mans. That's how it's still used by companies in the gaming industry.

Don't make me pull out the topic where I cited sources for this shit, that's a lot of googling

^So we just need a new phrase then?

I nominate "Real games" lol jkjkjkjkjk

"90+" is a pretty good identifying quality, but it doesn't sound very good. Anyone want to take a shot at creating a new term synonymous with "90+ rated"?

Uhhh

I dunno

90+ is nice and descriptive and short to type

Metadarlings?

metaschnuffibarchen?

That is considerably harder to spell

To be OT:

No, I don't think the Wii will stack up very well to the Cube on Metacritic. But I don't take that as an indicator of quality, either.
