Which consoles have made you bought one for the first time and why?

What special features did it have that made it a must to get it?

i had the magnavox because its my dad's , and i got the Atari because my father bought it to me, (i was too young didn't make any decisions at all) , until the Playstation came, it was my own decision to get it and its because of word of mouth, i got the saturn too but i wanted the PS1.

the first console i played was the snes but the first one i brought was the ps2 and it was because of the games.

GameCube. Curiosity. The Legend of Zelda franchise.

Anyway the great thing about the English language is you can use completely the wrong word an people still know what you mean.

I had Commodore 64 as a kid, bought by my parents. A university flatmate had a NES I played on a bit. But neither of these things convinced me to by a system of my own. My brother got himself a Playstation in the mid-nineties. He needed some money, so I lent him the money and I held the PS as ransom. He never paid me back, but I got a lot of gaming in for the 3 or 4 years that the PS was my prisoner and pleasure slave. A few years later PS2 comes out, I want it, but it's too expensive. Eventually price comes down, but a pure gaming system is really not justifiable to the wife. Yay! PS2 plays DVDs and we didn't have a DVD player at the time.

PS1 gaming was what got me to buy my first console (PS2). DVD playback is what convinced my wife to allow me to get the PS2.

Do you mean persuaded? Wii. Nostalgia and the Wii remote. Its popularity meant it would surely be a hit and not end up like the GameCube or Nintendo 64. There was also a bit of brand loyalty -- I don't own a non-Nintendo console. The VC and Wii remote are two of the special features that lured me back to Nintendo.

Well, I technically didn't buy my first console until the Wii (bought it because I enjoyed my N64 and Gamecube). My parents bought my first console, an N64, when I spent hours upon hours at my friend's house playing Mario Kart with them.
