Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do the PS3 and 360 sell differently in different regions?

the USA tries to be different then the rest of the world on nearly everything. (subconsciously if you ask me)

The world loves Football(soccer), The USA does not.
The world tends to be socially liberal, USA tends to be Socially conservative.

it is no different with ps3 and xbox.

=p
my two cents ;)

hello how are you.

Around the Network

The 360 in NA had good marketing to the right demographic, and they played well the card of the online community which is an important asset to that demographic: I don't want to over-generalize and sound trenchant about frat-boys, but in most of Europe there's no such thing as the dorm community of American colleges.

Nor there seems to be the same extreme reaction to the marketing: in Italy I don't think there have ever been things such as midnight launches, nor collective craze about a console or a game justifying queues of hundreds of people outside retailers.

Plus there's always been a strong PC gaming presence and a vivacious hacker scene, which reflects into

a) a tarnished image for the MS brand

b) the perception of the 360 as a second-class PC because of the gaming genres, availability of exclusives etc. The PS3 probably looks like a better complement to a "real" PC.

"All you need in life is ignorance and confidence; then success is sure." - Mark Twain

"..." - Gordon Freeman

yeah its about demographic...

another example:polyphony (gt) confirmed that na users wanted damage in gt...

also you frequently see posts that say from na xbox users"l4d is awesome uncharted is boring"
thay cant play games with puzzles?

if i say my opinion on this i will be banned however :)

UK loves 360 as it was out 2 years earlier it's cheaper and their is SKY on xbox and US usually have it easy porting US products to the UK

Games, price, brand, RRoD and marketing.

With games, 360 tapped well into US developers, who have the favourite franchises of US market. In Europe, the same games aren't similarily popular.

Cheaper price. In Europe price isn't that much of an issue as it is in US.

There are lots of games that are associated with "Playstation", even if they would be multiplatform games, such as GTA, Final Fantasy and PES. I would say, you find more uninformerd customers from Europe.

RRoD. Whereas the US market puts more emphasis on price, european market emphasises quality (as being working in a company that works on a global market, this is excactly the case).

Sony has put a lot more money into marketing than M$ did.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

In the UK, the 360 elite is cheaper by £50 (~$80) than the 120GB slim, and the arcade is around £90 cheaper (~$160). Plus MS advertise amazing well here. But price is the main factor in the UK.

Maybe because Sony respect more the smaller markets aswell. can you play a game as Halo in Dutch? Swedisch? how can a Dutch 8 year old play a game like Halo or Kameo when the only words he know in English are gay/motherfucker etc.
