Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Nintendo make a New Super Mario Bros Wii 2?

I'd actually like 'em to make another one for the ds...only as hard as NSMB wii!

For some reason I can't explain (even to myself) I prefer 2d games on portable consoles these days...mebbe it's the whole 'take it with you and play it when you're bored' thing...(even though I prefer nsmb wii to the ds game, I spent more time playing the ds game so far... crazy I know!)

I know the multiplayer aspect works better on a home console but I'm not that into that sort of thing !

Mind you I'd also like to see a whole new 2d mario game with 8 or 16bit style graphics released on the vc...now THAT would be something!!!

I think it will happen this gen, because I don't see their next console doing something that will add much value to SMB. They may as well make a Wii version with it's massive installed base, especially if the next console has backwards compatibility.

Beyond that, I think the Wii has many more years left in it, there's plenty of time to release a sequel without cutting the original too short.

Are you kidding?

Mario is a system seller, a huge system seller. You don't just chuck him out on your old system and hope for good sales, you force all those millions of people who want to play to buy a Wii 2, helping to secure your position in the next hardware race. That goes double when you're actually selling your hardware at a profit.

I don't expect to see a new 2D console Mario until we see a new console from Nintendo. Looking at how this game is being recieved, Nintendo may wish to make it a launch game, or at least a first year release.

The DS game came out in 2006 and still sold several million copies in 2009. No reason to expect the Wii version to stop selling before 2012. I'd expect NSMB Zii, not NSMB Wii 2 at this rate.

Do you really think Nintendo's next console will be called Zii?

...well it is tradmarked by nintendo.

I would guess that they trademarked it to interfere with knockoffs like the Vii.

NSMBWii 2 should be like Super Mario Bros 2.

Or in other words, they should make New Doki Doki Panic, sell it in Japan, then remask it for the US

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

nintendo won't have to worry if they bundle it with the wii 2 at launch. now THAT will push sells!

They should stop making 2d platformers for 20 years (again), so when the next comes out is nostalgic and sales king....

I hope Nintendo decides to be lazy and remasters Mario Allstars with multiplayer.

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

I'm quite serious. I see 2D Mario as something they will return to quite frequently, and I would certainly hope they haven't progressed to their next console in the next couple of years. Furthermore, I would think their next console will be justified by a new value, and they should focus on what that does to sell the hardware, I highly doubt it will be a further enabler of more 2D Mario. To make 2D Mario solely for their next console would be an irritating move to consumers, since 2D Mario should be very much at home on Wii, the console they've already bought.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
