Are you kidding?

Mario is a system seller, a huge system seller. You don't just chuck him out on your old system and hope for good sales, you force all those millions of people who want to play to buy a Wii 2, helping to secure your position in the next hardware race. That goes double when you're actually selling your hardware at a profit.

I don't expect to see a new 2D console Mario until we see a new console from Nintendo. Looking at how this game is being recieved, Nintendo may wish to make it a launch game, or at least a first year release.

I'm quite serious. I see 2D Mario as something they will return to quite frequently, and I would certainly hope they haven't progressed to their next console in the next couple of years. Furthermore, I would think their next console will be justified by a new value, and they should focus on what that does to sell the hardware, I highly doubt it will be a further enabler of more 2D Mario. To make 2D Mario solely for their next console would be an irritating move to consumers, since 2D Mario should be very much at home on Wii, the console they've already bought.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
