Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I accidentally picked up a DSi car charger and my dad almost broke my DS

If this is really what your home life is like, you have my condolences and prayers.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

FML!!!

lol kids are stupid.

As a 33yr old dad who has also spent the last ten years raising siblings from 12 on up. I can honestly say teens are ignorant sons of bitches and I feel sorry for mom when I was a teen.

Is it really so difficult to actually read the damn package?! seriously?! I'm sure it clearly stated what it was for, but you know damn well you just looked at the price and saw DS. lol.

Sorry to rip on ya when obviously your day isn't too fun already, but jesus man how much frustration could be solved if any teenager could actually be a little more patient and read.

As a kid I didn't have a lot of money to waste on stuff so I always made sure to read the packaging carefully.  One day I went to Zellers and saw one of my favourite games for the SNES on sale for 30$ I instantly purchased it and brought it home to play. Sadly the game that the box showed was different then what was actually inside it.  The box showed both english and french writing for the game.  In Canada that's pretty common so I thought nothing of it.  When I put my new copy of The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past in my SNES.....  I was a little more then disapointed.  I got the french version of the game instead of the english one.  As to why a zellers in Hamilton Ontario had a French copy of the game I will never know.  I tried my best to try and figure my way through the game over the course of a week but couldn't quite enjoy the game the same with the french text.  From what I could read in French, it looked like a really sloppy translation.  Some things and places had slightly different names.  So I sadly had to return the "cheap" game and get my money back.  I wish they had an English version but all they had was a shelf full of french games.

That sucked.  Sadly the DS multi iteration changes have caused a nightmare for people looking for the right part.  I even have a hard time finding the right thing I want at times because the damn packaging never gives the right details.  Take Guitar Hero for the DS...  How many people bought that game thinking it would work with the original DS?

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Well as true as a lot of that is, throwing a tantrum over such a minor thing is not something to call "solid parenting" and enough to do something like that.  Good parents know that with kids, ESPECIALLY WITH TEENAGERS, you have to pick your battles.  If you don'g do any discipline you lose them and if you freak out over everything you lose them.  I'm sure freaking out over a thing like this is not something to freak out about.

Kids might be stupid that doesn't mean bad parents exist which they do.  Even if the teen years are brutal to the parents their still has to be the clear line of who is the adult to set an example for the impressionable young minds as they grow older.  In this case, the father has only shown that maybe he still needs some parenting.

Leo- try not to sweat it too much.  I have a father as well that is very anal about a lot of things and well he freaks out on the smallest of things as well.  Personally I've just grown used to it and smart enough to really understand it and not let it bother me.  Unfortunately parents are people too and screw up as well just like the kids.

sometimes parents act like shit, dont worry everyone make mistakes

just understand them too man and go by yourself and change that thing, and dont worry about your future games they will buy you those , your father was angry, thats all

And I can say that some dads are ignorant sons of bitches and probably shouldn't have kids.  Did you ever stop to think that a teenager's brain is still developing?  How much frustration could be resolved if the parent, who is supposed to be smarter, wiser, and more mature, would relax a little and realize that mistakes happen?

Well in walmart, when you buy anything game related, they get the product with a key, and they put it into a bag, I didn't even look at it the entire time, until I finally got to it to charge the dam thing.

I am getting really lazy.. I guess you are right to some extent..

I went to walmart (horrible games department just horrible) and I went with my father. He told me to get a CAR CHARGER because the guy that I traded my old DS with for a DS lite was goign to give me his charger once school starts (2 weeks from now). Well I saw that there were car chargers, for $8.97, and another for $12.99. They both said Nintendo DS, and I got the cheaper one which was likely going to be the DS lite one. I swear that at the moment I knew it was a DS lite charger..

Well anyway I get home, and he tell me to turn on the car so I can charge my DS. I tell him its the wrong charger, and he says "You better be joking" he starts SCREAMING and slams everything he has, and gets my DS and smashes it onto the floor, and my mother starts screaming "YOUR AR ETARDED PIECE OF #$$$", then I said why cant I just return it, and he said "GET ON A BUS AND GO RETURN IT THEN, YOU JUST FUCKED YOURSELF, IM NEVER BUYING YOU A VIDEO GAME EVER AGAIN".

so.. here I am =/

If this is true there's a lesson to be learned here, and that's to not end up like your parrents.  I'm still having a hard time believing that parents can be that ignorant though.
