Forums - Gaming Discussion - OFFICIAL VGCHARTZ 3D GAMING THREAD

@ disolitude: Very nicely done. Im very excited to see what 3D will be able to do. For those of us who are lucky enough to be able to take the techno jump (or like myself have a 3D ready tv) the possibilities are fantastic.

Rumor right now is that 3.2 PS3 firmware update will enable 3D on the ps3 (probably movies only).

Ill go back and find some of those links I showed you earlier, to add to the official post for members who want to read more (about HDMI, PS3 blueray 3D and other things)

next gen will prob have almost every game in 3D o.O

Good thread.

I'm stoked for 3D, even though my only option will be through the PS3. And I won't be getting a 3DTV until CES 2011 has come and gone, at the least. But I'm really excited to play with it no less, even if it's only the console experience. And I want to watch Avatar in 3D at home too of course. I'm also excited to see if Sony will get some 3D content up on their videostore, because that would certainly make me use it!

I'm curious to see how "3D" Sony will make the PS3. Is there any possibility that dynamic themes are already 3D compatible?

EDIT: And I have no doubt that 3D will take some time to get off the ground. What excites me the most about 3D on the PS3 is that it means Sony will be fully prepared to make the PS4 a much more capable machine in terms of 3D stereoscopic viewing, not to mention that developers are already getting to know the tech.

Im not interested in this 3D, Besides Just to play it requires me to buy a whole new t.v. which isnt worth it in my opinion.....Seems like a market ploy on sony's part to increase sales on its t.v. division

Sony as a whole are taking in 3D. They think 3D will be the next big thing (and I agree), and are gearing up to be prepared for when it gets popular. They are creating 3D movies with their movie division, 3D TVs with the TV division, games, etc.

Sweet...yeah if you find something that adds more details to the PS3 3D upgrade, ill add it to the OP. I tried to be as basic as possible, and there was no PS3 3D details when I made this thread...

In my experience 3D works best as a cool novelty that you do once or twice a week...

Its not something I want to do every day for gaming to be honest. There are issues with eye strain and headache if you do it too often, lights have to be completely off and there are other trade offs from making this tech accessible to everyone.

While you are right in saying its the next cool tech to get if you are a tech junkie, I don't see this ever being huge with the general public.

The 3D effects I get in games in movies is quite amazing...but I have a 67 inch TV. What % of the population is goign to buy a 60+ inch TV. I see a lot of people with 40 inch TVs or lower saying "whats the big deal?" or "this is too small...I'll just go to Imax when I want 3D"

I'm going with Iwata: I don't think it'll become a trend in the near future. Maybe in a far future, but in this or next gen, it's unlikely.

I think you re right.

But its something everyone will want to try and play with for a few months. Sony, Samsung, LG and other TV makers are counting on this as they are trying to sell you new TVs and Blurays that can do this...

For sure. Avatar has become the highest-grossing film of all time mostly because of the 3D sessions. And I'd be willing to pay a higher price for a 3D TV, but for gaming, it's not the right time yet. I believe this and the next generation will set up the 3D games, but we'll only see if it'll become successful or a failure by the ninth or tenth generation.

If people want to have a glimpse of 3D in gaming, maybe we should check the first console using the technology massively, the Virtual Boy... Wait, shouldn't we just delete all its data from our heads?...

The tech is still in a fledging state though, and I think those issues will become lesser over time. I don't know how long it will be, but it will happen, if not with the current tech, then some new "3D" technology.

Q: What do I need to play these gaming masterpieces in 3D?

A: You need stereoscopic 3D glasses with emitter. Many different companies make them. These glasses work great http://www.i-glassesstore.com/dlp3d-wireless-2set.html

Also you need a 3D capable TV, which if we are looking at 2009 TV models, are Mitsubishi DLP line and Samsung 450 plasma line (PN42B450 and PN50B450). No LCD TVs support 3D gaming yet…

And you need the game.

I lol'd.  great thread btw...i find 3D amazing and i'm really excited at the prospect of 3D gaming.
