Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Galaxy 2 benefit from MKWii & NSMB's success?

"Where are you getting this information? SMG 'only' sold 8 million because it isn't a party game like every single Wii game that sold more."

Thinking "casual"="party game" shows why you don't get why the mainstream isn't into intensive play games, and Mario 3D is that kind of game.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

It's true though. Wii Sports Resort, Mario Kart, Brawl and now NSMB. These are the best selling Wii games because they can be played socially.

Mario Galaxy has a very pick up and play design and is actually much, much easier than NSMB. The controls and mechanics are simple. It's not Metroid. It's very casual friendly. But like I said, it's not a social game, which is why it hasn't had the same success as the biggest Wii games.

I thought you meant "retarded minigame compilation" when you wrote "party game", since that's often the context given for that phrase among gaming sites. I didn't realize you meant otherwise.

As for being easier to pick up and play, I don't think so, simply on the grounds that 3D gaming always adds even a minor layer of complexity. That is if the 3D change is done right.

I expect it to do as well as SMG1...maybe a little less in terms of sales. The increased userbase will help, but it won't help bring sales up much. SMG1 had competition from Brawl, wii fit, and Mario Kart Wii so that might be for an advantage for SMG2. I dont believe NSMBWii will attract new gamers or pull that many away from buying this game. It is just a sequel too, so most of the people will buy it while others will overlook it. It is all based on the new buyers to pick this title up.

I still expect around 8 million sales, but im hoping it can break ten million.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

Am I the only depressive who expects Galaxy 2 to kill NSMBWII legs and only sell 7mil LTD
