Forums - Gaming - Gamespot genre awards up

Some of these we no brainers (nothing compares to Uncharted 2 in its genre)

others seem quite sensible choices

my only problem would be the strategy award given to the Sims 3, but I haven't played the game, so I won't curse Gamespot for all eternity

Gametrailer also gave Demon Souls best RPG award!!!

I enjoyed Ratchet and Mario about the same. Both are worthy winners.

You are right, both are worthy winners and deciding for either of them is comes down to personal tastes.

Best Action/Adventure - Uncharted 2 (Obvious)
Best RPG: Demons Soul (Good Choice)
Best Platformer: Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time (Fantabulous!!! Well Deserved!!!)
Best Shooter: Killzone 2 (Well Deserved. Fantastic Game!)))

PS3 Domination all the way. Just shows how much quality there is to PS3 Exclusives!

good job ps3!! :D they prob got the most games to top genres this year and good job demons souls it deserved it and fought a tough battle since its not mainstream like dragon age origins lol

I agree with pretty much everything there except Platformer.

I would give Platformer to 'Splosion Man. That might change ina few days time though

Glad MW2 didn't get the shooter part. VERY overrated game.

Overall, PS3 domination...

Well there is something a little more overrated than it in the category haha.

As for the platformer, I never played Splosion Man so couldn't say.  Haven't played much of Crack in Time either, but I just have issues with Ratchet and Clank being called a platformer to begin with but that is for another time.  Still a good series and I see why so many people like it.

- "Hm, we don't have a simulation genre anymore, but we can't ignore The Sims 3 as it got great reviews AND sold more than 6 million copies" => filed under strategy, gets strategy award, done
- Empire: Total War not even nominated in strategy, but two tower defense games (one was obviously not enough)
- (point&click/classic) adventure and MMO genres non-existant; my prediction: those genres will have a splendid comeback in some NA 2010 award shows so that they can give predictable awards to Star Wars: The Old Republic and Heavy Rain and nominate Star Trek Online plus 3 other MMO's-no-core-gaming-webiste-cared-about-despite-their-userbase, Gray Matter, Vampyre Story 2, next year's LucasArts remake and next year's random-Telltale-game-based-on-a-borrowed-LucasArts-franchise

Yes, the country that once had the most and the world's best PC game developers still loves PC gaming - somehow.

I have the feeling you are refering to Killzone 2. If you are, i think you are wrong.

KZ2 was hyped up by fans on forums around the net... And gained a metascore of 91. Which IMO it deserves... It has great gameplay and excellent presentation along with a pretty decent online.

Modern Warfare 2 was hyped up by the entire planet. Gained a metascore of 94, which in no way shape or form did it deserve. It had a really short and plotless campaign... And a very, very broken Multiplayer.

I personally think L4D2 should have got the Shooter award, very underrated game... But hey, not for me to decide

btw! , Street Fighter is the WORST fighter this year, i'd ... -goes into seraphic-sixaxis mode- take Tekken over it any time.
but! -goes into normal mode- i'd take BlazBlue over both, and of course there is final fantasy!

Lol I thought me and my brother were the only ones that felt this way about SFIV. I traded it in when Tekken 6 came out and we still play Blazblue.

PS: In my opinion King of Fighters 12 was the worst fighter this year.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

Well if you know I'm suggesting it then you know there's a reason haha.  Don't worry I don't think it was the most overhyped game ever... I'll leave that to Gears of War.  But I still do think it is one of the most overrated ones.  Really, as I said about platformers, when it comes down to genre specific awards you have to put the most consideration into how good the main mechanics are for that genre.  And when you compare Killzone 2 to the rest, it doesn't stack up.

I don't think Modern Warfare 2 should have got it either, though I do think that one should have been nominated.  My choice has been Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.  That game along with the Butcher's Bay remake was the best shooter of the year and unfortunately because it sold poorly, released way earlier in the year, and no one talked or hyped it... it never stood a chance.  But I don't think MW2 should have got it (enjoyable single player but still forgettable and multiplayer that pisses me off more than I enjoy it) and I don't think Killzone 2 should have got it.  Also wouldn't agree that Left 4 Dead 2 should get it and I probably wouldn't have had that nominated either.  Would have much rather replaced that with Red Faction: Guerrila, another underrated and forgotten game of 2009.
