Exactly. The CEOs at Ford, GM, and Chrysler have been getting filthy rich off of all the Americans who have bought their shit cars for decades, and people finally had enough of it. GM and Chrysler totally deserved to go bankrupt, I'm astonished that they got bailed out. If you can't make a product to compete with, then get the hell out of the market; we are capitalists here, after all. |
Just to echo this statement:
'Imports' are not exactly imports anymore. Due to the demand of foreign-designed cars, they have located much of their factories in the United States. Honda, for example, has many plants in Ohio - we have a Honda plant located in my small town of 13,000 people. My buddy makes more money than a lot of people in my town at the Honda plant, despite being non-union.
With the big 3, it is not just the upper management - it is the union employees too. Due to how the unions work, bad employees are retained longer than they should be, creating inefficencies and raising costs for cars (costs that foreign companies don't have). That is why Ford is becoming what GM and Crysler weren't - they hired outside help (the former CEO of Toyota) and began to revamp their line. Guess what? Ford is now far more competitive, and didn't need the bailout money which is keeping bad CEOs, managers, and employees at bad jobs.
And now for the kicker:
The most American car, in terms of materials and labor used to build it is the Toyota Camary.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
