It's already been done. The remake of 'Red Dawn' was filmed in Detroit as the post-invasion city of Seattle where the city has been decimated, and businesses have been renovated by the Communists.

Detroit is indeed the closest place to film a movie about the destruction of America, ha ha.

I predict much future success for Detroit if they hire the entire city out for post-apocalyptic movies, and hire the homeless slummies as extras or 'survivors of the nuclear holocaust' - they already have the dress for it!
