Yes, white flight and the racial tensions ravaged Detroit. Also, and this is often never considered when discussing the decline of Detroit, the freeways-specifically, I-75-ravaged Detroit. They carved the city into many pieces. The tax base was destroyed, historic neighborhoods were divided, and it facilitated the white exodus from the city. Detroit's decline is the result of a confluence of many unfortunate occurrences.
