Forums - General - Have you ever wondered what America looks like?

If you have ever been interested in visiting an American city?

Then welcome to DETROIT!

If you've ever wanted to see America, then you will never forget the great city of Detroit, Michigan. Home to a higher unemployment rate than its graduation rate.

Yes, the video is right-wing, but I thought it was hilarious. Sadly, this is how a lot of the D looks like - for a few hundred dollars (thats like 5 Euros to you Europeans), you can own a city block! Since my brother is a realtor, I get many updates concerning the housing market - many houses are just $100 USD to purchase.

In certain parts of certain towns, yes But with Detroit, its a far larger area than any other city in America. There are entire areas of Detroit in this kind of condition - the city has experienced a massive exodus, leaving large areas of the city uninhabited.

There are over 12,000 abandoned buildings in the town. If you wanted, you could easily take over, and create your own city.

Google 'Detroit Abandoned'

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Reminds me of the Silverdome. Sold for $583,000 and it's a massive stadium.

It sold for the price of a house.

For a comparison... just a year beforehand it was supposed to sell for 20 million.  However, the deal fell through.

Yeah, Michigan is in dire straits.

Though, if i remember right... this has been 20 years in the making.  Houses being abandoned in detroit has always been an issue.   It's just gotten worse lately.

That'd be an interesting expierment with government money... buy all those houses on the cheap, and make entire parts of detroit government housing.

Would never happen though, since too many people ironically mostly leftwing would be claiming that you were sequestering the poor to their own little part of the country.

Ignoring the fact that a house is better then no house.

Have you been enslaved?

Thats not fair to America.

I was born in Detroit 1986, and my father moved to Cleveland 2 months later.

thought I'd share that because they are both crap cities.

The slums are a part of Manila, Philippines..

but I agree that the government should buy vast amounts of these abandoned houses and turn them into projects. There are a lot of homeless people in the U.S. and it seems to make perfect sense to put them there.
