Forums - Sony - Games That Make Really Good Use of the Sixaxis Functionality

LBP is good.

MY GOD I WISH I could go back to the old way to do foul shots in NBA 2k8 though... the sixaxis controls on that are god awful.

I'm so sad that people are just stuck on the whole "LAIR has bad dragon controls" thing :(.
There is nothing wrong with them. You lean the controller where you want the dragon to go and he does. It was instinctively clear to me that I wasn't going to be able to turn sharply with the dragon as I could with say a mosquito (especially at high speeds), so I didn't say fail when it would not work. And you can stop in mid air, just keep pressing one or both the break buttons.
Oh whatever, your loss.

hey I tried it both ways and as a whole it wasn't terrible it just felt that they were having it used for too many things plus the doing a 180 control by lifting up never worked out too well for me.   I wish they had used the 6axis about half as much as they did and buttons or the analag sticks for the rest.  However that still wouldn't have helped with the timing on the missions.  In one of the latter levels they kept changing the objective even before the prior one was completed so it was having me go all over the place.  I wish the game wasn't paced so fast so I could focus on what i wanted to kill.  So it's not just the controls for me it was the timming as well.

Here's a pretty good list of games that are either enhanced by using Sixaxis controls or just good if they are mandatory.

- Flower (general controls)
- Heavenly Sword (loved controlling projectiles. It sucked the first time you try it, but now it's one of the few reasons I would recommend anyone to play it)
- PixelJunk Eden (the whole shoot-to-the-ground thing works well)
- Uncharted/Uncharted 2 (the lean back thing)
- Heavy Rain (immersion)
- Army of Two (reload and parachute controls, believe it or not)
- Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (hated the flying, but all the other minigames were pretty fun)
- Killzone 2 (the sniping was very well done!)

Then there were implementations that were good/fun, but didn't really enhance anything.
- Metal Gear Solid 4 (changing the camo suit back to default and shaking boobs)
- LittleBigPlanet (looking around and hip-control)
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (more boob control, embarrasing but funny )

And then there is a long list where it didn't do any good. But I can't be bothered to write that down

There are probably more games out there, but these are pretty much just off the top of my head. And Dead Space and RE5 should have had Sixaxis controls for shaking creatures off, instead of raping your controller to do it!

They made a patch that removed some functionality of the sixaxis controls, that is, the "plunge" when the dragon rushes the target was removed and moved to a button. (And maybe more? Like stick controls. Yuk!) Funny story, I didn't allow the game to update itself at first, because I wanted to see if all the "controls are unusable" allegations were true (they weren't). Then updated the game, and suddenly I could not plunge anymore. I was like, "wtf? now you start not working?". Then later I discovered that it was moved to button. Easier, didn't interfere with the 180 turn..ok.

About the timing thing, I realized that they are more like complaints than objectives. You have to choose what you will do, kinda like later stages of Tie Fighter, one has to be insanely fast, precise and lucky to not loose, or, in the case of LAIR, to do very well. Practice, perseverance and strategy is needed. That makes up for the relatively low number of missions. But enough of LAIR.

OT: Heavenly Sword rules and the sixaxis controls too, except jumping for aerial combos. In Folklore demo they felt good. Warhawk too, except I got my ass kicked horribly...

I think all flight simulators could use it reliably, at least offer it as option.

Best game with 6axis has to be Flower as it is central to the experience, but it feels so natural that you almost do not realize you are using it.

I think that LBP and KZ2 were also 'clever' in their implementation.

The worst I have seen has got to be in GTA IV where motorcycles and helis really handle disastrously. Only useful for getting the wheelie trohpy I guess :)

Folklore was very good (and underrated) for SIXAXIS.

Flower I thought made best use overall so far then in no particular order:

LBP
Flow
Warhawk

HS was okay I guess.

But Folklore and Flower are the SIXAXIS masters.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

High Velocity Bowling and Wipeout HD.
I also liked using to aim with the Sniper Rifle in KZ2

Warhawk
