Forums - Gaming - Anyone else tired of the liberal use of "repetitive" in reviews/impressions

Repetition is not necessarily a bad thing, I agree. However, when things start to feel repetitive it is. When the thought 'So I'm doing this yet again' enters your head while playing, it's a sign of something not being quite right. And things can be tedious without being or feeling repetitive, so I'm not sure that word is a great replacement.

Perhaps you do have a point however. Simply using the existing templets for writing about video games might not be such a great idea at all times. The information the reader seeks might be lost in all the clichés.

Using tedious is just one example.  Generally, I see doing what feels like work over and over again as a means to progressing in a game as tedious.   Repetition and tedious, in that sense, may go hand and hand but stating "repetitive missions" and such can be vague.

Pixel Art can be fun.

So to sum it up, the writers in the gaming media need to be better writers.

Purchasing a dictionary and a thesaurus is a must.

Thanks for sharing, Mr. Bond.

Your wisdom has yet to stop impressing me.

The problem is, that when a tester sits down with the INTENTION of testing a game, and not just playing it, he will see flaws when there are none.
Over-analyze the story, think too hardly about the meta-gameplay, etc.

I prefer listening to people who only wanted to PLAY the game, and if even they felt the repetition, it might be noticeable.

Final Fantasy just a bunch of emo cutscenes with some menus between them.
And it still gets great reviews -.- but if it's a wii game the score goes down.

But war... war never changes
