Forums - Nintendo - Why no SSB:DS?

The DS has been out for 6 years now and NIntendo has yet to release what is sure to be a sure fire hit for the system, Super Smash Brothers.

What are your guesses as to why nintendo hasn't released this game?

and do you think the DS will ever get a Super Smash Bros game?

hello how are you.

I don't think it would work as well as people imagine it would. It's a fun idea, but I think it'd be hard to make it work well. And no, I don't think it ever will.

I dunno, it worked fine on the N64. Of course, multi-player would be the big issue.

Fuck Smash Bros., where's Metroid Dread? :(

I wouldn't give up on the idea of portable SSB for their next handheld but I think any hopes for SSB:DS should be put to rest.

P.S. Anyone who is going to use the terrible Jump games for DS as an example of how SSB:DS can work are dead wrong those games are just awful. If anything they show how a SSB:DS could go wrong.

Yeah...It aint that it couldn't be done on the system...I just don't think it'd work so well...(wasn't one on the gba either so it seems it aint a series they have ever felt was suited to a handheld machine...I guess?)

Knowing nintendo they'd only ever consider doing it if they came up with a cool concept that would work well for the ds (personally I'd be interested in seeing a ssb game that utilised the stylus in someway for its controls, but don't know how effective it would be...works well with a game like zelda but there's really only 3 different slash types needed there and don't really think it's THAT precise. Mebbe not good enough for a smash bros game?)

Hard to cram all that content on a DS cart?

Theres a quite a few DS games that have had tons of content fit in those tiny carts. I wouldnt expect a portable SSB to have as much content as Brawl and neither should anyone else.

Not really, SSB took up only 12 mb, and the biggest DS games are 256 mb.

I think it's because we already have a smash brother type like game on the ds and that is the Jump super and ultimate star series. The characters themselves are characters from Shonen Jump that battle each other in a kind of smash brotherly style against each other. Of course due to licensing issues it's near impossible to bring it over state side and such. Thankfully the ds is region free so that's not problem. : )
