Ps3 Version will look better....Anyone who doesn't think it will is kidding themselves....But...I understand people getting it for 360 just because that's either what they have or they like the controller more or it's just...more fun to watch the pretty arc-shaped lights in the front be green and not red.

For me it will be the Ps3 version because I love playing RPGs with the Ps3 controller and I'm just sure it will look better on the Ps3, even if just the cinematics.

Does the controller really make that much of a difference when playing an RPG? It sure doesn't to me. I've played rpgs on my 360 and I'm currently playing FF13 on my newly purchased PS3, but the controller doesn't make any difference since it's an RPG! haha. I can understand for fps games/fighting games/racing games, etc. but an rpg...no not really.

Meh, controller is a pretty big deal to me.  It use to be achievements were the deciding factor but now since they both have those of some sort, it goes down to controller (and currently my PS3 not connecting BlueTooth devices half the time).

If I'm going to be holding the controller for hours, I'm going to want the one more comfortable.  As long as I don't need a huge precise use of the D-Pad, that's going to be the 360 for me.

Not surprised, own both systems and will be buying on PS3, its that simple, to bad they are bringing down the quality to keep in line with 360 version, I say make the best game you can for each system, If some are better on 360, fine If some are better on PS3 fine, Just make the best game you can, PS3 and 360 gamers should not have to suffer for developers issues, if they can't pull the same on every game from the systems.

I don't understand why this is even an issue. The gameplay is most important. Look at FF7. It had 3 discs but the last disc barley took up half of the cd space yet it still had all the areas from the other two discs. Doesn't this mean that only the FMVs took up the other half of the cds on the other discs. Only things changing for FF13 are going to be compressed cgi and some music maybe.

If you have both a 360 and PS3 you would obviously get the PS3 version. But if you don't have a PS3 and don't feel like spending 400 to play a game then just get the 360 version. I will get the 360 version as I have no PS3. I doubt the story will make any more sense with uncompressed FMVs

Why?

As far as we know it's not like Bayonetta where there's an obvious advantage, it's two extra discs and 7.1 audio.  Not a lot of people have 7.1 audio and disc number isn't that big of a deal.

I guess if you do have a 7.1 setup it might be obvious, but for everyone else, so far, it just comes down to preference.

At the moment I'm leaning towards 360 for my own reasons, but I'll wait for the reviews to start pouring to finalize what system and to decide if I'm even getting the game.

-edit-

And I'm not saying people shouldn't already lean towards one of the other, fuck if I care what system you like better, I'm just wondering why you think it's obvious everyone should choose the PS3.

I don't have an Xbox360, but if I did, I would still get the PS3 version. Not because I am a PS3 fanboy. I have played Xbox360 at my brothers numerous times and don't see a need nor do I have the time to invest into a 4th gaming system.
As for the reasons as to why I would bet the PS3 version? I am a bit of an audiophile so the uncompressed HD audio makes a huge difference for me. That and I simply prefer the PS3 controller. Finally, FF series just would not be the same on anything but a PlayStation system, FFVI and prior excluded.

@Feylic: That's why developers put the largest files on the outside edge of the disk.. And that's also why 99% of the multiplats have faster loading on the X360. And also, if you wanna argue like that, here:

http://img418.imageshack.us/img418/5399/12xdvdvsbdrs0cg.png

That graph shows that the minimum read speed is basically just a tad lower, and the maximum is way above it.. Yes, this is for 12x, since the X360 is capable of that. That does not mean all games use it, but if it's needed, they probably will. And again, even if they use 8x, the largest files are put on the outside part of the disk, and the menu files and stuff that doesn't need high read speeds are put on the inner edge. Because of this, 8x will have the advantage over 2x Blu-Ray in games.. Period.

Yea, no kidding, thats called mastering, but the fact remains that not ALL of the information can be stored at the edge of the disc, and hence, it will not always be read faster.

As for the graph, like you said it's 12X so it's pretty much useless and but the part I bolded does not work. If the game is big enough, they will use a dual layer DVD and it will be 8X, they can't just decide it will run faster at this point, it's 8, the 12 no longer matters. Because of this, over the entire size of the disc, the read speeds are quite comparable between the PS3 and 360's respective drives. PERIOD.

No, the 360 can read Dual layer DVD's at 12x, please stop spreading MikeB's fud, this has been proven wrong several times yet still people insist on spreading misinformation.  Not only that but newer drives are capable of reading single layer disks at 16x.

I have never seen anyone prove this wrong, and have read and participated in tons of threads about the subject here. If you can show me where this proof is I would like to read it.

It is quite clearly shown in the firmware that it reads dual layer at 12x, if you want to continue in ignorance thats your problem.  The burden of proof is upon you to prove your claim that the drive can only read Dual Layer at 8x which I know you cannot do.

in response to 360 v ps3 gta IV version and sizes, 360 is 6.4gb whilst ps3 is 4.3gb

didnt you get those the wrong way around?

Nowadays all X360 games are 6.8gb (game data limit of the X360 DVD). Maybe some launch games are smaller. Don't know about GTA IV on PS3 because PS3 is still unhackable so you can't find any PS3 games from torrent sites.

wasn't it 8.5gb on the 360 dvd?

No, likely be 6gb maximum. Microsoft has reserved 2gb of the dvd9 for security leaving developers with only 6gb of space for game data.

If you're going to make something up, at least make it believable.

The only people that will be buying it for the 360 are the ones that are fans of FF, own a 360 and have not yet prchaces a PS3.

I would not even consider getting it for my 360.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that.

Meanwhile, there will be plenty of people that buy the 360 version over the PS3 (myself included if I get it) because they simply like the 360 better.  I'm assuming there's no real difference between the two other than number of discs and 7.1 audio and as far as I'm concerned, those really don't matter.

I'm with you on that. I'm purchasing the Xbox 360 version over the Playstation 3 version as long as there is know major in-game graphic's decrease.

I simply prefer the Xbox 360 controller and I'd rather have Final Fantasy XIII 1000/1000 sitting on my gamertag than Final Fantasy (Platinum Trophy)

This isn't the same as when a game releases on wii and 360. On that hand a person will have to go toward what he cares more about the way a game plays or the way a game looks. Case and point CoD played the same on PS3 and 360 but had a better community on 360. Everyone got the 360 version for the better online experience.

On this topic It's just about how a game sounds and how FMVs look. No better community is going to make you lean in one direction and in-game graphics are the same. Why not choose the one with slightly better sound and FMVs with no disc swap?

There is more of a difference in audio than just 5.1 vs. 7.1 and simple uncompressed vs. compressed audio.

The Xbox 360 is not capable of any kind of HD Audio, it is capable of Dolby and DTS 5.1 only. So the version of audio you will be getting on the Xbox360 is going to be Dolby. The PS3 verison has have Linear PCM 5.1, DTS 5.1 and Dolby 5.1 for audio choices. Neither have 7.1, unless they change that for the US Release. (source: http://scrawlfx.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Final-Fantasy-XIII-Box-Art-Scan_01.jpg).

The LCPM audio is supposedly 1.5mps which is in line with HD audio formats. I cannot find anywhere that confirms the actual bit-rate of the audio.

The difference in audio will about equal to DVD vs Blu-Ray if this information is correct.

Same here, as long as besides the cutscenes and audio they're equivalent I'll stick to the 360 version.  With a game as big as this will be, I'd rather have my mates on xbox live to chat to through all those hours of gameplay.  The controller preference in fairness doesn't bother me for these games as they don't require quite the same level of finesse a FPS does.

Disk swapping will not be an issue for me as I have over 50GB free on my HDD.
