Forums - Nintendo - Square: Crystal Chronicles series isn't dead. Just returnig to normal

Well seems like the next game on the series'll be more like the first gamecube game.

S: What do you think is the next step for the Crystal Chronicles series? Will it go back to its multiplayer roots or a deeper single player storyline?

AK: The Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles multiplayer games for GameCube and DS has many fans, so we would like to continue creating new entries in that direction. On the other hand, the open field game system for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers has many possibilities for further evolution, so I would like to spend some more time with it as well. But there’s only one of me, so I’m not sure which project I will be able to take on next.

Hmm, it's good he didn't go all anal about TCB sales. Another "open world" FFCC would be nice so as long as it fixes everything TCB seems to have done wrong (too many minigames than necessary, not totally accurate controls, better camera, and give it a more RPG feel this time). But a 4 player FFCC GC styled game with online and local co op would be great.

Motion+ should be before online.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I'm glad they weren't discouraged because of Crystal Bearer. Hopefully we will see a new multiplayer Crystal Chronicles made for Wii (not a DS port...).

they do sound disappointed with the the sales.

It's strange that this series is considered dead even though the latest entry hasn't released in NA/EU.

It's about instant gratification. A game has to be declared a hit or miss in the first week or month. When MW2 came out, it was all about the awesomely huge launch, and that NSMBWii stood no chance (not even counting Reggie's declaration). Same with GTA IV vs Mario Kart Wii.

Hopefully next time they'll put more of a push behind it instead of focusing seemingly completely on the number entry in the original Final Fantasy series. Or perhaps they should start numbering the Crystal Chronicle series. Crystal Bearers is #5 I think if you include all titles that carry the name (GameCube, DS, 2 on WiiWare). They can still have the game play be different in each one but the next should be titles Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles 6: <subtitle>.

What's normal for the Crystal Chronicles franchise? Seriously? From action RPG to Sim City to action/adventure to tower defense.

Maybe they should keep doing what they're doing: Experiment with new ideas in the Crystal Chronicles franchise while they phone in more sequels in the main Final Fantasy franchise.

Crystal Chronicles

Rings of Fate

My Life as a King

Echoes of Time

My Life as a Dark Lord

Crystal Bearers

So this game is #6.

Thanks. I forgot about Rings of Fate.
