It's well beyond 4 billion. If you were to count everything it's more like 8 billion.

The Wii makes more money than the DS.

But they have two platforms which are each more profitable than the PS2... LOL.

that doesn't matter. they could sell 500 million wiis and be making 10's of billions of dollars in profit, and the industry would still be saying that their doomed.

Are you guys completely delusional? There is no end to the talk about Nintendos financial success in the industry, and on forums like this talk about how they are printing money are common. Get real, Nintendos success is well known and no one are trying to deny it.

It gets acknowledged but not by the industry, not legitimately. It only does when they absolutely have to, and even then analysts only recently came out with a projection that showed Nintendo winning. Even then they had to include a "worst case scenario" for it. Maybe if you've been sleeping under a rock or something, the established industry wants the Wii to not succeed and I could give you more proof than could ever be given for any case whatsoever.

There we have it! The official profit/loss and it looks like Nintendo made more money last year than Sony did from the PS1 and PS2 combined. So heres the thing I don't get. When we have a weekly sales thread and everyone sits around the fire saying that the 'DS did great, Wii did great, PS3 did great, PSP did poorly and Xbox 360 did poorly' or some variation do these numbers seem to slip from peoples minds?

Nintendo's profits since the Wii released are well above $4 billion, they've made over $3 billion profit in FY 2008 and FY 2007 if I recall correctly. I don't know what the ratio of profit is between Wii and DS, but I imagine they're making more profit with the Wii since they could've sold the console for profit when it first released even if they sold the console for $200 (I believe Perrin Kaplan confirmed that).

yes the Wii is making alot of money but $4b is not the correct figure.The profits are somewhere around $2.5b for the Wii not taking in account DS profits.

And no PS3 didn't lose more than Xbox + 360 losses.Xbox division losses racked up from the launch of Xbox franchise back in 2001 is near $9.5b(abt $3-4b from this gen),although near a billion of it has been earned back by profits.

Abt the PS3,PS3 has lost Sony's Playstation a total of $3.5b till September 2009 because of the loss sustained on every PS3 sale.This figure could be higher if we didn't take losses recouped thanks to PS2 and PSP.

About the original Xbox and PS2, we're not talking about last gen. The op wanted to know only about the current gen consoles.

PS3 has lost around $4-4.5b till September 2009,this number is just for the PS3 alone

so the figure for the entire Playstation Divison is around $3b.

Which means that my estimate is clearly not too high. Since the Wii launched Nintendo as a whole made more than $11 billion in profits. For me to be wrong your own statement has to be wrong.
