Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why Phantasy Star Zero did not sell as well as Phantasy Star Portable?

Both are great games, I played both and I think Phantasy Star Zero is best. Well, it's my opinion, because, comparing sales, Phantasy Star Portable has sold well over Phantasy Star Zero. But do not think that means it's a bad game, or am I wrong?

PSP looks to have a sci-fi Monster Hunter "feel" to it . So that and on a PSP I see a lot of the appeal. Ive yet to play a Phantasy Star game but If I was being honest I'd choose PSP over PS0 if I had the option.

Im really starting to regret selling my DS but oh well......and my PSP being stolen....twice....from my house.

One thing is, while neither had ads or promotion, the PSP game was put on sale the second week it was released in Gamestops gamer days sale, so the games were put into a bin front and center of every store vs the DS game that was likely buried/mixed in with every other DS game.

MaxwellGT2000 - "Does the amount of times you beat it count towards how hardcore you are?"

Wii Friend Code - 5882 9717 7391 0918 (PM me if you add me), PSN - MaxwellGT2000, XBL - BlkKniteCecil, MaxwellGT2000

So the game did not sell as it should, or how it could have sold, because of marketing?

I automatically assumed he was comparing PSP2 to PS0. Either way I assume he's talking about PSP and PS0 overall sales. US sales wise PS0 is doing pretty good copmared to PSP but PSP was a bigger success in Japan than PS0 by quite a bit.

I do not think Phantasy Star Zero going to be a success in Europe. But I hope so.

Phantasy Star Portable fits the PSPs audience like a glove, and it being closer to a proper JRPG probably helped with some.

I really want to try Phantasy Star 0, i really do. I just don't have time to get back into the tremendous time-sink that is Phantasy Star Online.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

well, i tried multiple stores before i bought it at gamestop and i have yet to see it in any store outside of gamestop

Sega decide to go for the local multiplayer option, which is big in Japan, for PSP while opting to use the online mutiplayer option on the DS. Online gaming in Japan is not very popular. This is why PSP sold better than PSO.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

Yeah, the 500 or so hours I spent on the Gamecube title is keeping me from purchasing this game.
