I think 2010 has decent support. I expect a few High Profile Games to pop out the woodwork. I think Red Steel 2 will be a critical success, and NMH 2 will outsell its predecessor. I think 10/10/10 for DQ X is too good a date to pass up for the dragon quest franchise... especially for a game that could have probably been in the workshop since sometime in late 2007.

3rd party lineup is awesome for 2010, at least in terms of localizations.

Things do seem like they're drying up a bit in Japan, but we're probably good for at least few more big surprises (MH3G, DQ7 remake, Inazuma 11 Break, etc). Weirdly, Japan's really solidified behind WiiWare though, much moreso than XBLA or PSN.

It's bad for the Wii when all of their big games are speculation. I don't think any of those will make it in 2010, well perhaps MH3G, but still doubt it.

Current rumor puts MH3G around May/June, and it's based off the western build.  I think we'll get *something* DQ related next year, be it Swords 2, Torneko 4, Monsters BR, the DQ7 remake or whatever.  And if Inazuma 11 Break doesn't happen next year, I don't think it'll happen at all.  Shame it and Ushihiro got shelved at L5's last conference. :/

Honestly though, after Q1, there aren't really any legitimately big 3rd party 2010 games announced for any platform, not just Wii.  DS, PSP and PS360 are just as dry at this point.

Could be just that they are getting ready for the next gen platforms

They're working on Dragon Quest X currently.  I don't think we're going to get anything else.  As much as I'd like a Dragon Quest Swords sequel with Motion Controls.  The Dragon Quest team is different than the SquareSide, which is happy to have 10 teamsworking on 20 Final Fantasy ports/sequels.  Instead, Yuji Horii would rather focus on 1-2 games at once.  And really....Dragon Quest VII remake.  Its not going to happen.  Its way too soon after the original game.  And its the least favorite of the series.  And even if it did, its mostly likely not going to happen on a console.

The only rumor for Dragon Quest that has been solid is Sugiyama (yes, the composer) has hinted at a possible new Dragon Quest Monsters in development.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

We're getting a lot of great games this year in the US and Europe. Q1 is just loaded. Dunno what the hell I'm gonna do. I need to stop posting on VGC and start trying clearing this ridiculous backlog.

I'm really worried about Japan though. I think we may see deja vu with Q1 2010 over there.

Er, Hori's team (Armor Project) rarely gets directly involved in spinoffs or remakes.  Hell, look just look at DS... within 4 years it got 3 DQ spinoffs, 3 DQ remakes and a full fledged DQ9.  Even PS2 got a remake and 3 spinoffs in addition to DQ8.  PS1 got 2 spinoffs and remake with DQ7.  SFC got DQ5-6, 2 remakes and a spinoff.  You really think Wii will finish off with just one full DQ and one spinoff?

Arte Piazza, Genius Sonority or some other company will head up the inevitable WII DQ7 remake, just watch...

Yea 3rd party support in Japan doesn't seem to be all that high but in the West it does seem to be quite good mainly from those Japanese developers. Most support is going to that of DS with the rest PS360. I'd say Wii is losing more out to the DS in Japan than the other consoles because DS is just a more ideal platform to put software on.

No, that is the complete opposite of how it is.  Armor Project, along with Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, are DIRECTLY involved in every Dragon Quest game.  This includes games from the Dragon Quest Monster series to Dragon Quest Swords to the remakes like Dragon Quest IV-VI DS.  That's why the series has such tight quality control, because they don't just outsource it to a different company (such as Genius Sonority and ArtePiazza) and the core team doesn't have a hand in it.  Yuji Horii even had a direct hand in the recent DS remakes by implementing additional content he wanted added that couldn't make it in those games in their original release.

As for this generation, its a complete exception to past generations.  We've already got 2 side games (Dragon Quest Swords and Joker) as well as they're coming up on the third remake (plus two cel phone remakes of Dragon Quest I and III).  And then they spent just shy of FIVE years working on Dragon Quest IX.  Only to begin work instantly on Dragon Quest X.  True, they could be working on another game, like the rumored fifth Dragon Quest Monsters title, but I don't think we're going to get much else this gen.  I mean, 3 DS remakes, 2 side games and 2 main games is already a ton for any series.  Especially when the main games take anywhere from 4-5 years to complete.

awesome game list!

sure there are a lot more, it's impossible to remember them all, 2010 another great year for Wii

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Well everyone has already came to the obvious conclusion. NA/EU is getting all the great titles JP got this year so no need to worry for us. JP however seems to have run dry of Wii games and its cause for worry since none have been announced.

In the end for anyone that cant speak Japanese and owns a Wii 2010 is gonna be a hell of year and lets hope Japanese devs start announcing new titles next year.
