Please tell me you aren't serious. There have been images of what this game looks like for a while. Not once has it ever looked like a standard Japanese RPG. It's always been shown to be an adventure game. How could you think other wise? Final Fantasy games aren't always JRPGs. Final Fantasy Tactics series for example. The Crystal Chronicle series has been a mix of different genres and this entry is no different.
I don't like that the minigames are the real "meat" of the game while the standard, on-foot adventuring is taking a back seat. I may not pick this up now because of that.
Just beat the game, the old rumors were true, this game is about 12 hours long, there's a lot of side stuff to do and you can do new game plus so it extends the life but if you're in it for the story you can beat it in a couple of days like I did.
It's fun and has some really entertaining parts. The story isn't generic as far as the FF series is concerned its a big departure you don't have your hero stereotype where they set out to save people from the very start, nor do you have your emo hero that wants to set things right for their love, Layle is a mercenary he acts like one and gets roped up in fate because of it. A very well told story I must say though it doesn't grip you by the heartstrings it's just very entertaining.
It's pretty cool that you can go back and do any of the boss battles or things like blasting the hell out of those birds from the beginning, at any point, so props for that cause those are some of the most fun moments in the game.

I'm happy the game can be finished in 12 hours. I just don't have the free time I used to have.

Been playing the game for a few hours and I'd say it's a solid B or B+ or a 8 out of 10 for me at the moment. Camera can be an issue but adaptable. Would be nice if it follow behind you better though.
Story so far is moving pretty fast. I got to thinking as well if you happen to strip the turn based combat and the need for leveling up in original Final Fantasy series (thinking back on all the FF games I've played) the length of those games would be significantly shortened. Though you still have cut scenes inflating the time as well but I wouldn't be surprised if they were really 15 to 25 hours games or maybe even less. I tried pretending if all that stuff was put into Crystal Bearers and I think the parts I have played would have caused me to clock in a significant more amount of time.
