Forums - Sony - Mario Kart killer? Mod Nation Racers

I don't think it'll be a Mario Kart killer. What it'll be is the game that the next Mario Kart will ripoff and then Mario fans will consider it the first of its kind. Somehow I keep hearing that the Super Mario Brother Wii is innovating... maybe if Little Big Planet didn't come out first I'd agree. The same thing will happen though, I have a good feeling about it.

Dude, Your comments are stupid. Why would Mario Kart rip off a track editing feature? FZero GX for the Gamecube had a track editing feature but Mario Kart Wii did not steal that feature. Nor did the developers steal any features from the better kart games of the 90's like boss battles or the story mode from Diddy Kong Racing or Crash Team Racing. At least give the developers of Mario Kart credit for being creative. With out the Success of Mario Kart Wii there would be no revival of kart racing this gen.

If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba

The reason why I say "No, just no." is because whether or not you meant in sales, when this game fails to sell 10billion, folks will try to use this thread as a reference and say that ALL ps3 fans hailed this as a Mario killer in all aspects regardless of whether or not that is true.
So, with that in mind "No, just no."

Based on what I've played in the beta, I reckon ModNation Racers has better gameplay than Mario Kart: Wii, too. The weapons aren't cheap like Mario Kart's are (no blue shells here), and the boost system is really cool.

(Basically, the boost meter is filled up by skidding around corners, doing tricks in the air, attacking another player, or following in another player's slipstream, and you can then use this stored power for speed boosts, shields, and to shunt other players. Choosing what to use the boost for, and when to use it, adds an awesome tactical level to the game that Mario Kart lacks.)

If they can fix the bugs and the frame rate issues (and in the 6+ months of dev time left, I'm sure they will), it's gonna be teh super awesome.

The beta started today. So no time machine required.

So a beta of a game is 1000% better than a game atop of a genre? Really?

Like I said just above, I find the core gameplay mechanics of ModNation Racers to be superior to those of Mario Kart: Wii's.

Throw in the track creator, character creator, kart creator, and superior online play, then yeah, I can see how that would be a valid opinion.

In my opinion, Mod Nation Racers gives someone one less reason to buy a Wii, if they already have a PS3... or in some cases it gives them another reason to buy a PS3...

I don't think it'll hit 20 million or however many Mario Kart has... but it'll be fun! Especially the track editor. It's a great family game.

Blast, all I got was a lousy theme in my inbox.

good job I applied 3 times, only got one code.
