Forums - Sales - New Super Mario Bros Wii only 85K behind Moder Warfare 2 (PS3)

Either way, it will outsell one version. That was his stake in the ground.

I know I have roughly zero chances of persuading you to believe this, but having just replayed that video, I have to say that it does sound like he agreed it'd outsell the 360 version. In my mind, there was more than enough of a pause for the "on the 360?" to have registered, and I think Reggie took the bet nonetheless.

You, of course, will disagree.

I wonder though: it's selling spectacularly right now, but Call of Duty games tend to as well. It's certainly going to be close, but I think 360 MW2 will narrowly squeak to a win. Of course, I expect NSMBWii to have outsold it by February...

But to the "absolutely" part, it was about either version. Just "I believe so" to the 360 version.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

If NSMB Wii beats MW2 (360) by January NPD we won't have to debate about the terms of the bet anymore. That would be great too.

Are you kidding? Then it will be "He meant the NPD results given in Janurary, not the actual numbers for that month!"

Great for who?

What if it actually does? Oh, the shock waves it would send through the internet. What a nice thought.

Nah, you'll see many of the same posts seen in this thread, just in a slightly different context. There will be people declaring the bet was obvious and that everyone knew NSMBW would win, and there will be people claiming the bet wasn't fair because Mario is Mario, and there will be people claiming that the fact NSMBW didn't outsell both versions despite the large wii user base means that NSMBW is the weaker game.

Mario brothers has been around in some form or fashion since 1980, call of duty since what 2003. What a fair comparison.

It, to me at least, just underscores how well 3rd party titles are doing on the PS/360 compared to their wii counterparts, most 3rd party developers would die to have the numbers that COD is running emulated on the wii.

Sony and MS' would love to have sales of the 1st party games have numbers that NSMBWii is running emulated on their systems on the other hand.

In an attempt to counter me you wrote your sentence kinda quick and it doest make sense considering that Sony has Gran Turismo and Microsoft has Halo, both multimillion selling franchises, both first party both emulated on their respective system.  Try again.

It actually makes perfect sense.  Halo and GT are great franchises that struggle to get to 10 million (the latter likely won't even make it this gen) while Nintendo's passes that threshold with ease and sees several titles get to even 20 million - and you can list only two.  See NSMBWii for a good example.

I'm sure Sony or MS would love to have several games past that sales milestone, not just Halo.

I just noiticed the title sais "Moder Warfare"

Yeah, I have problems with typos.

I forgot the battle was NPD exclusive.

NSMB won't beat MW2 by the end of January, but it will eventually outsell it lifetime in Americas.

Reggie might lose the bet, but in the end, will it really matter?

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Modern Warfare 2 (X360) Americas: 4.87m

New Super Mario Bros. Wii Americas: 2.40m

New Super Mario Bros. Wii needs to outsell Modern Warfare 2 with 350k per week in order to have sold more by January NPD numbers.

Last week it outsold MW2 with 160k.

It is likely that NSMB.Wii will sell better after the holidays than MW2. It's going to be close, but I still think MW2 will win, and I have done since I saw the first week figures. Those were way higher than I had anticipated...
