This is about a bet that Reggie made with the guy that host the Game Trailers televisison show.  Members of VGChartz decided to make a thread about this bet. Some members believed that New Super Mario Bros. would sale better than Modern Warfare others did not especially after the first day sales of Mordern Warfare 2. Now members have been keeping track of the sales of both games to see who will win the bet. This is no different than the "Will the PS3 reach 5 million before the Wii reaches 10 million" bet. Neither bet is designed to make one console look bad. This is a sales site and these kinds of bets promote interest in the site for some.

Then why make a post about NSMB: Wii being away from the worst selling version of Modern Warfare?

I think it's because of the confusion over the Reggie bet.  Some people claim that he just committed to NSMBWii versus either of the two HD platforms and according to that stance he won his bet this week. 

I heard the interview and I'm certain he committed to beating the 360 version in the US (implied because of reference to NPD) by the end of January, meaning the bet is still ongoing.

Reggie was saying "Yes, absolutely", and in the middle of those two words, the guys asks about the 360. Reggie was not saying yet to the 360 specifically, but to something else. He still meant either platform.

Nope, Reggie was asked 2 times if he meant the 360. Second time he said "I do believe so". You can check for it anywhere, it's all over the web.

Looking at it again, Reggie did insist on one particular platform the first time. The second time, he seemed to confirm it, but it also seemed the guy was trying to shoehorn it into just one platform. You don't try to rig a bet that way.

I know, but Reggie did accept. It's probably a dirty move on Geoff, but Reggie ended up accepting. That's why perhaps he said January, so that he could have more time.

No, that's just dirty to try to blurt it out and hope he affirms accidentally. When the guy first asked, Reggie said a single platform. When the guy got specific the first time, Reggie didn't. So why get specific when asked two seconds later? I think the guy just wanted to shoehorn it that way.

English isn't your first language. People can often blurt things out when rambling in English. Not sure how that works in your native language, but it's often exploited as a weasel tactic here, especially on new pundit shows.

Just watched the famous segment all the way through for the first time...

I think Reggie was aware that Geoff said 360. In fact, I think that Reggie meant that NSMBWii would outsell MW2 just as long as the comparison was according to a single platform--either PS3 or 360--but not both combined. Geoff was just clarifying it, not trying to weasel something in.

Actually, I believe that Geoff said 360 twice and gave Reggie more than one opportunity to confirm (which Reggie did in pretty powerful language), so, yeah...
