Arcania *caugh*
but even if there are some, they would be foolish to release it near ME2.

and even then FFXIII won't be released until two months after which means there will be a two month window for ME2 to reap in sales. Even then those two games tend to cater to two different markets.

Don't take this the wrong way but please enlighten me on which of these magazine/ gaming sites are not second-rate or just known to a very very small group of people: http://www.thewitcher.com/community/en/awards/3/. I'm not trying to detract anything from this game. I'm only trying to dive into what shio said and whether it's true or not. The first two pages seem to start with the most prestigous and recognizable sites/mags but from there on you just have awards given by sites that don't even make it to metacritic ratings so those are basically all user choices' in a sense. Mass Effect's official site only tracks from sites that are listed on metacritic/gamerankings and a few other like the New York Times and such. If Bioware wanted to burn some man-hours, they could dive into sites like the Witcher has posted and see what they won back in 2007 as well with a much bigger list of awards. |
Look, just accept that The Witcher has a LOT of awards and is a top game. I'm not going to go as far as saying it's better than Mass Effect, but it is a quality title (although in certain aspects it is, like longevity and difficult moral decisions without a clear cut good/bad outcome). A lot of those awards aren't just from random European sites but well respected publications like PC Gamer.
To be honest though, being on metacritic doesn't automatically make a publication good. It just means they've got a large enough reader base that metacritic decided to include them. Also, page 6 has websites such as ign which you probably recognise :P.
OT: Possible competition:
The Witcher 2
Fallout Vegas
If Elder Scrolls V comes out... well, lets just say I might not be on vgchartz for a long while!
However, I can't see anything topping Dragon Age, Bioware really outdid themselves. Bring on Mass Effect 2!
some people would make the case that FF13 isn't a "real" RPG, due to the fact that you aren't role playing the characters... WRPG's are way more close to the definition on an rpg.
And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

^I'm not going to continue arguing, because I don't really know what we're arguing about now, lol. If Bioware did look then yes, they may find some awards they didn't know they had, but as CDProjeckt are Polish they're more likely to know the Eastern European/European websites which is probably why they're up there. With the information available to us at the moment, all we can say is that The Witcher won a lot of awards, and we know The Witcher has won more awards than Mass Effect based solely on the info on Bioware & CDProjeckts websites. Might not be completely accurate, but that's the info we have now and it sounds too much like hard work to look into myself for other awards either might have won.
Anyway, if Witcher 2 comes out next year on consoles, give it a go.

true story.
And of course this little title Halo 3 took quite some awards as well. A competition the PC RPGs did not have to deal with. Of course Mass Effect saw better reviews as well. Metacritic:
--> The Witcher (Windows): 81
--> Mass Effect (Xbox 360): 91
--> Mass Effect (Windows): 89
But we are arguing with shio. He still claims CoD Modern Warfare sold 10 million copies.

The PC version of Mass Effect also was around 90 I believe, yet it won almost no awards. One thing that is true is that The Witcher won overall more awards than Mass Effect, regardless of the quality of those who give them.

That's how I feel about it. JRPGs are more like a character driven story with stats, where as wrpgs give you the choice to play your character a certain way (although in a rudamentary sense in most cases).
At any rate, I think ME2 is going to outperform the first one handily. ME is a series that has stayed in conversation circles ever since it came out. Brand awareness is already there and that will probably facilitate more curiosity on behaf of those who have not played the series yet.
I really hope you PS3 only peeps get a chance to play both games. It would be a shame to miss it.

Awards from:
and many many more. That is more than none. Actually it is the best you can get.
