Ha, I'd say it's a joke, inspired by Miyamoto's quote and maybe the reaction from teh hardcorez.

GO PATS! 2012 THE YEAR OF NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS'S 4TH SUPER BOWL!
A patriot to the end. GO PATS!
Now playing> THE LAST STORY (Wii) Best RPG I EVER PLAYED. *-*
Nintendo could u please just take my money and give me back my 3DS?!
Where did he say that Zelda died because they couldn't animate a skirt? That is just misleading.
Lol if thats true thats damn lazy. But it also explains why Nintendo are so profitable.
They didn't have rough cloth animation in the last generation? It doesn't make sense... im sure a static skirt wouldn't look too bad.
errr I can understand them not wanting to animate a girl in a skirt... but the mario comment is obviously a joke as for platformer games the animations are limited.
For zelda though, you have to consider all the issues you could have with weapons, trees and other objects including legs and movement that would need to interact with the skirt... that's painfull.... but on a 3D game not a DS one.... so obvious joke here too.
OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO
To get back on topic instead of the pseudo flaming...
I actually think Nintendo ended up with fortune from misfortune. Zelda dying and ending up as a spirit worked well as a story (I loved her facial expressions when she started thinking about what the demons are doing to her body) and the armour suit works with the gameplay, letting her go places you can't.
