Not if you don't want to, but why come into this thread of all threads and sour it up about it? Make a thread addressing this issue if feel so strongly about it and want everyone to know.

Well the topic of discussion itself is pretty much congratulation for doing something which was expected anyway. I am therefore protecting all the people who love to worship one of these console companies from themselves. My reasoning is that if Sony was expected to have a third year peak and they did achieve what was expected anyway theres not really that much to congratulate them for. This is probably at best a bronze trophy. How do you celebrate the bronze trophies of a console generation? You know the ones you get for just turning up?

What record has it beaten then?

Gratz PS3 on getting to 10m in US. But in comparison to the past Sony consoles and current Gen consoles it has taken waaaay to long. In the same time frame the PS2 sold 28m.
So while its an achivement, can it be considered a good one?

You're supposed to congratulate the people who saved the best brand of gaming from total destruction after they had made some crap decisions.

PS3 outsold Wii since slim launch until the Wii price cut. The "best brand in gaming" is still alive.

Wii - 180k WW

Week ending 12th September -

PS3 - 325K

Wii - 165K

Week ending 19th September -

PS3 - 275k

Wii - 175k

Week ending 26th September -

PS3 - 246k

Week ending 3rd October (Wii price cut) -

Yes, but as already mentioned in the thread TWICE the numbers for the projections are currently: 

Console PS3
Total
7,384,663

So, by March end 2010 they will struggle to make their projections. It is possible, but I think unlikely. Well done for 2009 sales nonetheless. We'll have to see how things go during 2010. The marketing relaunch was very good, but will it be sustained?

If i'm not mistaken, this number is sold to custumers, while their projection is probably shipped units. So the 13 mln are not that far away, I reckon. I might be wrong, though

@baz Way more, xmas is coming. Maybe 2mln in stores, since the next 3 weeks will be huge(This week, FFXIII week, people were expecting PS3 at 1mln+). So they'll probably overshoot their prediction. IF the target is "shipped to retail", mind you.

PS3 numbers in Japan for the last 2-3 week of the year will easily break the 10m for PS3 because of FFXIII...

You're probably right about the amount in stores.

If the Financial YTD sold is 10 million by 2010 then they have a shout at shipping 13 million, but January to March will be very slow.

I'm not sure they will hit their target (which is shipped to retail).

thats awesome if it can do 15m next year and if the 360 manages to sell its usual 8-11m that it has been doing for the past 2 years then that would put the gap to about less than a mill
