Well, he's using VGchartz-numbers, which are "sold to customers", not shipped. If it can reach 10.3 for the middle of december and there are two more weeks in 2009, then 11.5 is very likely at the end of the year. Add another 0.5 for the first two weeks of January (at least) and you have 12 million already.
That's not taking into account possible higher weeks during the next few weeks (with people predicting one million-week for FF XIII release). If only that is true, then 10.3 + 1 million already puts it at 11.3 for the week ending on the 20th. Looking at this prediction, 12 million sold in 2009 alone is possible, let alone in March.

So, by March end 2010 they will struggle to make their projections. It is possible, but I think unlikely. Well done for 2009 sales nonetheless. We'll have to see how things go during 2010. The marketing relaunch was very good, but will it be sustained?

If i'm not mistaken, this number is sold to custumers, while their projection is probably shipped units. So the 13 mln are not that far away, I reckon. I might be wrong, though
