What is going to happen to EA in 2010?

It's going to be business as usual from 2009 48 53.93%

The company is going to be bought out 5 5.62%

The company is going to be broken apart 14 15.73%

With BF and MOH, they are heading back on top 22 24.72%

Total:89

With the latest news about Zenimax pulling back Rage from EA, this is a company teetering on the edge.  They have shuttered Pandemic, and unless Saboteur really knocks it out of the park, they will have pay FAR too much for Bioware.  Mass Effect 2 is going to sell 4-5 million units across the PC/360, but unless BF2:BC2 and MoH deliver, they are going to be in a world of hurt.  Dante's Inferno is another big title, but I don't think it's going to sell more than 3 million units across all skus.

Sad situation for a company that's really pushed new IP's and great software this gen, I guess I'll have to buy all of those games just to show my support.

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

They should be ok, but they are to big.

I guess it's time to EA to start supporting the Wii seriously and make good games for it with some decent design, not My Sims crap and Need for Speed Nitro Disaster...

It's sad to see companies going down the sewer because of failed HD projects (some of them).

Also, Dead Space 2 might sell well and I hope they don't screw up the new Medal of Honor.
And please, let Need for Speed die in peace.

EA just needs a more balanced portfolio. Their effort to promote more new IPs was noble, but it was a little stupid that all of those new IPs had to be AAA games. It was a bad gamble to make. They can still focus on new IPs, they just need to try new IPs a little slower (without making them necessarily worse).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

They should be okay in the future, but they where too aggressive when they where trying to buy 2K Games/Rockstar even though at the time they were not in the best financial shape themselves.

They own Bioware and Mythic, so...

They should work on exclusives for each platform as those tend to have very good sales (MW2 was an anomally and not the norm). For example if they would have focused their resources on Dante's Inferno to either be a 360 OR a PS3 exclusive, the end result would look more favorable. In the demo, outside the CG's, the rest of the game looked mediocre and felt like GOW's retarded brother, although the holy and unholy specs look somewhat interesting. Demon's Souls is a good example, although they are at nearly half a million, it was a game that was made on a low budget, and keep in mind it wasn't released in Others. Also it was a niche title. I am pretty sure a DI that would have taken full advantage of the 360, would have had potential of high sales.
Note, I am a PS3 owner and fan, but I am aware of the 360's selling power with exclusives. DI sales would most likely be overshadowed by GOW3 on the PS3 side, thanks to DI being labled as a GOW clone.

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

I think you hit the nail on the head...especially given that M$ is usually willing to pony up some cash.  Basically, Ea should approach M$, Sony, or Nintendo for partnership deals on certian IPs.  I use examples from the film industry alot, because it works for blockbuster movies (which would get made without investors).  Take for example Dante's Inferno...EA knows that GoW is coming on the PS3, so yeah, they should have signed a deal with M$ to work on the IP.  There are franchises like Battefield, MoH or Madden and Fifa that you know are going to deliver heavy numbers going multi-platform, but for new IP, it makes sense to try and wean down your development teams to deliver focus products.

I hope they port Mass Effect 2 to PS3. Would sell 2mil copies eventually. That's got to be worth the porting effort.
