Forums - Gaming - Infinity Ward teases PC Modern Warfare 2 mod tools

It initially appeared as if Infinity Ward had tripped a claymore among the PC community with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Just a few weeks before launch, the Activision-owned studio announced a console-esque online multiplayer matchmaking service for the PC edition, one that denied desktop gamers the ability to operate dedicated servers or create custom mods.

And while desktop gamers vehemently voiced their opposition to the move, the PC edition of Modern Warfare 2 went on to sell more during its opening week than the original Modern Warfare did on the same platform in total. Still, Infinity Ward appears to be taking steps to appease PC gamers still irate over the issue.

In a post to his Twitter feed, Infinity Ward director of communications Robert Bowling said that while player-run servers are still out, information concerning official mod tools may be forthcoming. "Nothing on dedicated servers, but there may be some mod tools news coming in the future, I'll pass it along once I have it," he wrote.

Beyond his Twitter feed, Bowling noted that more information on the status of Modern Warfare 2, including known issues and in-progress fixes, can be found in a new, currently vacant section of Infinity Ward's forums. For more on Modern Warfare 2, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I would much rather hear about dedicated servers and 32-64 player support(and obviously maps to accommodate that). Once those come I can finally buy the game and live the hype.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Talk about false information.

Moral?

Make the lives of the developers a nightmare by dissecting the product completely and they give in. Good to know.

You also know that due is lying through his teeth when Walmart, Target, and BestBuy are trying to get rid of the PC version by selling it for 29.99 while keeping the consoles at 60 (granted it was a misprint but many people easily grab it once they show the ad).

Haha I really hope they're not as stupid as they sound.

There's been a dedicated server hack since day 2 for MW2 on pc.

Edit: not sure how much it matters, though, because from what I'm being told no one is playing it.  I guess the maps weren't that good?

Lazy journalism is lazy. First, when Bowling said it sold more in the first week than COD4, he was only talking about the UK Retail sales. However here's what happened after:

Call of duty 4
1st Week: 8th
2nd Week: 13th
3rd Week: 36th

Modern Warfare 2
1st Week: 5th
2nd Week: 20th
3rd Week: 39th

Which means COD4 started selling better after the first week. MW2 dropped 15 places in it's second week, while COD4 only dropped 5.
