People are complaining how Nintendo only gets out a few games a year on Wii, or bunching up all their big tiles in a single year and then having long droughts, well its because it takes time and money to make a 3D game on Wii, not only that it makes it harder to make new properties, because of the costs inherent in 3D game development. Now with 2D, more games can be made in a year and even new properties can be experimented with.
So on all issues 2D wins out, you can produce more games at lower costs and faster, thereby allowing for more diversity, and more games released in a year and sell at the same price for comparable sales. If 2D gaming on DS and the Gameboy and SNES and NES never became saturated, then 2D on Wii won't become saturated, what will happen is more games will be put out on Wii.
