So I went ahead and sold the GTS250 and bought GTX275... That lead to me buying a 850 Watt power supply that won't even fit in my case...lol. But it was worth it...Gears of War looks astonishing in 3D.

The lessson here is that if you want to do 3D today and do it right...you must spend lots of $$$.

You should have had the PSU to run 2x 6pin PCI-E if you had a reasonably specced 500W PSU. But im glad to see you got the card you needed in the first place.

PSU I had did not have enough amps on the +12 volt line. Wattage was fine but it needed something like 36 amps...

So I bought this PSU because if I want to go SLI, I should be covered.

All in all, I am happy that I got the thing going finally as it should be. Over the next 6 months I'll need a new case (to fit that gigantic power supply, a new SLI ready mobo, new CPU, and another GTX275.

Obsession has been born... :)

You should have been fine so long as you had a name brand PSU. The rated amps are wayyy over-rated so people with cheapass noname PSUs won't blow anything up and blame the hardware vendor. W = Volts multiplied by amps and in no way would you need more than 20A to run a GTX 275.

Honestly the best bang for buck and the best mid range card out there is the GTX 260. Best card you are going to find for the 200~ range. I feel your pain about the 8800. I had an 8800GTS and the 260 blows it away. Now I'm not running 1080p (1680x1050, first monitor to be cheap at large LCD sizes back in the day), but it's close, and I'm running most everything max settings at 100+ FPS that I own. Even Aion (graphically intense MMO) has absolutely no hiccups maxed AA max Graphics with 50 + ppl on screen in dungeon raids.

The Halo francise is the most overrated bland game to ever hit the console market. It provides a bad name to all FPS that even showed effort at creating an original entertaining plot.

I probably have more ps3 games than you :/

4890. Under $200 and matches a 275, not a 260.

Maybe in speccs, but I like reliability more, so back in the realm of reality, GTX 260 would be the smarter choice in the price-range...Especially if you're an OS tinkerer or Linux user.

Just waiting for that PS Vita to come out so I can play some full featured games on the go with that beautiful screen and control scheme...

Reliability? Can you link to some articles showing ATI cards having reliabilty issues? Because all I can find are the 8x00M overheating failures/lawsuits and the Nvidia Vista driver crashes.

AMD is supporting Linux more than Nvidia these days (I use an X1950 on Ubuntu) by providing a full 3D open driver, releasing specs,  and supporting Gallium3D and DRI2 and other X.Org features.

But ATI cards are of no use to him as he needs Nvidia because of the 3D kit.
I need to upgrade for the same reason and it sounds like the 260 will be the way to go for me.

Read the OP's topic. He needs Nvidia, and anyways I hate hate HATE hearing about all this Linux crap. There is no reason to use it on a gaming pc, and it is by far a minority when it comes to OS preference. Most ppl here talking about it (not saying you!) only talk about linux to sound cool. As for Nvidia, I've NEVER had an overheating issue, nor does my 260 even come close to getting warm even during Crysis. A good case can make ALL the difference.

I know he wants Nvidia. I suggested he buy a GTS 250.

If you're just going on price/performance, then neither reliability nor Linux support should stop you from buying an ATI card, because Nvidia cards have at least as many issues. If you've had issues with AMD that's unfortunate but your chance of a bad one is no better or worse than Nvidia at this point.
