And online LOL... Yeah, online games arent needed OR IS IT? There are some games that shouldnt need online but racing games, FPS, console RTS, fighting games, TPS NEEDS ONLINE. Especially on consoles his  view points are always "consoles shouldnt be like PCs" mentality that I questioned what his true intentions are with his blogs.

Goldeneye, mariokart, street fighter.

Fps, racing and fighting games dont need online.

Fighting games definitely dont need online.

The only game that needs online is rts strategy games.

So you can button bash fighting games just as like SSBB and TMNT PS2/Wii? Because thats what your sisters and mom will do if they play fighting games. Unless if you're on arcade but I thought arcades are dead in the US.

About FPS, yeah, video cards are TOO EXPENSIVE so we must increase processing speeds instead just remember, FPS gamers needs life like AI bots. They dont need real people to play even internet was affordable already. Even internet isnt dial up already.

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

The most famous fighting games are.

Street fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur etc etc.

They are not renowned for their online play, in fact its generally shit.

Fighting games cannot be done well online, any game that requires extreme nanosecond reaction for good gameplay cannot thrive online.

FPS does not need online, it is possible to make fun and famous FPS games through local multiplayer, Goldeneye, perfect Dark proves this.

The only game that NEEDS online (as in the genre would literally die) is rts strategy games, even then some would argue it could be possible to make a good local rts game, but it would have to be padded with alot of story and cinematics.

Thats why there are still people playing arcades wasnt it? And why most fighting games are played on the arcades. And gamers still plays FPS on PC ONLINE. The coming videogame crash will not be undoing of the game industry but with gamers themselves. Gamers wants to eliminate PC gaming and arcade gaming but it blows up on them. They think those platforms are outdated but it just keeps coming back. And now facebook will be the new disruptor of the game industry. To think the old school and core gamers were safe after the Wii stall, the casuals only move to ther thing to disrupt the market. No one can stop disruption even Nintendo themselves. Nintendo only wants to profit on this before the gaming industry truly ends

Fighting games ARE FAMOUS for Arcade and home local multiplayer.

Ever been to Japan? the arcade community there is almost solely fighting games and is great, for western countries, its local multiplayer.

Fighting games are NOT famous for online.

No one wants to destroy the fucken arcade or online scene, people who speak like this just have no idea about the situation, the scene dies because of numerous factors, not an intent to destroy it.

The arcade scene in Western countries was never as great as Japan, more importantly, it was never acceptable as a social thing, in Japan it is, when home consoles came out, with all the good games that arcades had, that is a big factor in its demise.

In Japan its a different story, the arcade scene is an acceptable phenomenon, you get godam news interviews with the top arcade players Daigo, Mago for SF4.

It is the EXACT same situation in South korea, rts strategy is an acceptable social phenomenon to the point you get celebrity korean rts players on TV.

No one there is ashamed of this, but in the West it is considered something embarassing.

I doubt arcades will come back in the West.

PC online gaming is still somewhat strong, but its fading due to consoles, and it itself isn't doing so well compared to its past years.

@Yushire: You know, AI can't be programmed to act like a human if you want a working game. That's because, unlike humans, games are programmed to lose, so the AI is only about in how complex ways you can imagine the game losing to you. When you go too complex, it's losing the fun.

The complaint isn't about online multiplayer or its existence, but the need for it as a standard. Without the focus in the AI and story/cinematics the need for online multiplayer would decrease heavily. If the focus of the game would be the single player and multiplayer gameplay experience, instead of online, the mentioned problem wouldn't exist in the first place. There's no problem with making online-focused games, but there is a problem when everyone makes only online-focused games.

Why do people play splitscreen multiplayer? Maybe this will give you a hint (it was in related videos you posted):
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dtWurY7wtpc&rl=yes&hl=en&gl=US&client=mv-google
It also explains why it's the kids who are the target audience for your regular single player online FPS. And Malstrom have been pointing it out.

If the reason why NSMBW sells, is because the box is collectible, why isn't Metroid Prime Trilogy Collectors Edition selling like NSMBW? If Mario sells, why 3D Mario doesn't sell like 2D Mario?
And could you explain why Mario sells in the first place?
Besides, how the red case excactly is nostalgia? There haven't been a single 2D Mario with red box.

Wario doesn't sell because you don't know what to expect from a Wario game, aside from quirkiness. That's why i for example didn't buy it. And because it's not selling, it isn't getting good word of mouth.

There may or may not be old school gamers running back in droves, but judging by public opinion, that's excactly what's happening. NSMBW isn't the only game with old school gameplay.

Level editor are UGC just like "make your own game" games. The difference is, that a level editor is additional content, while a game based on making your own is the only content.
And i didn't get the point of the video you posted or Contra LBP.

And Nintendo is expanding the audience so, that it wouldn't die when the market crashes. If they were just to milk a little before the crash, where's their big venture for the future that's going to save Nintendo?

The arcades, as you say, and PC keeps bouncing back because that's where the room for market is coming, when the devs move to consoles.
Facebook isn't disrupting anything, since it's just moving along the trends that already exist on the PC. They are just taking the advantage of the existing core on PC. Saying Facebook is disrupting gaming, would be like saying Halo 4 is disrupting gaming.

I know people that play FarmVille because it's easy and free. And they won't pay for a game so easy, but even if they'd pay for more complex games, they won't now, because FarmVille is sucking away all their spare time. And I sadly include myself, I'll wait for the end of Xmas and New Year craze, but then I'll have to start playing it less.

@Alby: Yes there are lots of people playing Farmville, but that's just one of the many alikes you find from the internet.

But in FarmVille case (but also some other minigames, like Pet Society, that bunch of aquarium games, etc), we are talking tens million gamers, it's quite a significant hit on a market of hundreds million PC and console gamers. Anyhow, these games lack depth and the challenge is quite low, so a share of players could eventually drop them and actually buy more complex sim games. We'll see, it's still early to figure longer term effects.

@Alby: The most common game played is a free flash game from internet. Have been for years. This is the market Farmville is in.

Yes, maybe it's even beneficial to the whole gaming market, as it introduces new people in an easy and cheap way (FarmVille itself counts on a small percentage of users starting to pay for advanced features).
