Forums - Gaming - Square Enix: We want Final Fantasy to last FOREVER! (AGREE?)

Define forever. Nothing lasts forever. Not even video gaming itself will last forever (even when it morphs to holographic gaming). So what does he really mean?

Does he hope it lasts until the Sun becomes too hot to support life on Earth in about 500 million or so years (or is it 100 million)? Or does he hope it lasts through until the 22nd century? Or does he mean for at least another 20 years?

I want that. I want to keep playing FF until I die. Just don't want to wait freaking long years for it.
I want a new FF every year, Just like in old PS1 days.

Holy shit , even i don't want this!

it will be soo soo overdoing it.

and also PS1 days there was a 2-3 years break between the games.

I love final fantasy so I want it every year even the spin-off will do but not the spin-off like the ones were having right now. It feels that it's not up to my standards IMO. It should be like the spin-offs before. Those were quality ones and also it's ok to released it every year but SE should make it sure that it's always be a AAA or quality one.

No it's not 2-3 years. FF was released every year. I also included tactics but if we are talking about main FF. FF was released in a span of 1-2 years but ever since FF VIII, FF was released every year until FF XI. FF XI broke the trend.

FF VII- 1997

FF tactics- 1998

FF VIII- 1999

FF IX- 2000

FF X- 2001

FF X-2- 2003

FF XI- 2004

FF XII- 2006

Edit: Just read the whole thread. 45 FF in 5 years Damn! that's a lot. I agree that it's getting over saturated and SE needs to stop releasing games with Final Fantasy on it. It's doing more harm than good but still I want it to be released every year  and I am talking the quality ones just like the list above. Those are the games that I enjoyed excluding FFXI (haven't played it so I don't know if it's good or bad).

with that logic , i'd say, they released FF these days alot more faster than the time you posted.

sooooooo much spin offs and you listed 2 spin offs too.

I listed it becuse I enjoyed those 2. Lol. Like I said I don't mind spin-offs as long as it's a great game but ofcourse don't release too much spin-off.

Just keep away from the dreaded XII and all will be OK, Square.

Part of the problem with FF currently is its over-saturation.  This gen alone we've had around 45+ 'Final Fantasy' games (that's roughly 9 a year).  And while its been 4 1/2 years since the last 'main' title, it would be a LOT worse if we got them even sooner.

Even if they limited the games to only the main games (which fans would complain about), it would still seem like too much.  Heck, people were complaining the series was getting out of control back on the PSX days, when we were only getting one main game and 1-2 side games a year.  Pretty soon Kingdom Hearts is going to surpass the number of 'Final Fantasy' games released in the PSX...in one generation.

Square has put ALL its eggs in one basket.  And to keep that basket warm, they have to keep adding more and more eggs.

I agree on that one. It's one of the problems. What I want is quality FF even if it's a spin-off games every year.

I completely disagree

I do not buy ANY FF spin offs (I got FF4 DS & FF7:CC...so 1 spin off & 1 remake) & most people don't

Main series wise they are anything but saturated, since FF10 we have been getting one every 4 years

that is not saturated at all.

I prefer a 2 year gap between main FF releases

That's not actually true.

If you're talking in terms of being one of the biggest companies then yes, but in quality terms, I think that they are recognized (At least when they were separated in Squaresoft and Enix) for having created some trully magnificent JRPG's over the years.

It's a shame that they have almost shifted their attention exclusively to those three franchises (FF, DQ and KH), but I think that they are reedeming themselves, at least in my opinion, with the release of Lufia Estpolis and Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday in the next year

parasite eve is going to be so awesome, i can't wait, i hope they also revive vagrant story  as well

at least the mainn FF series has maintained it's quality to some extent, it makes me sad when i think abotut FF:CC it went from being really really good to being rubbish very quickly (hope the latest one fixes this problem)

it's the future of handheld

PS VITA = LIFE

The official Vita thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=130023&page=1

No game has ever been able to lead its genre as long as Final Fantasy has been the leader of RPG's.

The most amazing thing about the series, coming from one of its biggest fans, is that they literally re-invent themselves for every new installment. New world, new characters, new story, new enemies, new battle system, new EVERYTHING. They are extremely brilliant and creative. This is why they can branch out from a game like Final Fantasy VII, or X, or XIII, and create an entire series based on one of the installments.

In the world of Final Fantasy, we also have our constants: Chocobo's, Summons, Moogles, etc., which give all of the games some form of commonality (if that's even a word).

It is truly the best video game series every, and with FFXIII around the corner, I'm sure I'm not the only one this excited.

@Darth - I never knew it was the second biggest franchise. What's the first? Pokemon? Mario?

Wow it's great to hear that...I can't imagine a life where Final Fantasy doesn't exist...and you deffinitley chose a good one to start the series off with.
