When it was announced that Gran Turismo 5 would be released in Japan in March of 2010, many had hoped that that would mean a simultaneous release worldwide. However, during a short demo presentation earlier this week, SCEA Associate Producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda revealed that while the Japan release date was on track, the game wouldn't come out until "Summer 2010" for North America. That means that Gran Turismo 5 could be released anytime between June and September 2010.
First announced during the E3 2006, the game has been a long time coming for fans of the series as it promises up to 1,000 cars and over 70 unique tracks. It will also include rally racing and, for the first time, Nascar.
March 2010 already promises to be jam-packed with hot new games for the Playstation 3 including Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III. Moving Gran Turismo 5 back to the summer may have been a strategic move more than a development move.
A demo of Gran Turismo 5 will be available for download next week.
