Forums - Sony Discussion - Gran Turismo 5 Pushed Back to Summer 2010 Release for North America

When it was announced that Gran Turismo 5 would be released in Japan in March of 2010, many had hoped that that would mean a simultaneous release worldwide.  However, during a short demo presentation earlier this week, SCEA Associate Producer Chris Hinojosa-Miranda revealed that while the Japan release date was on track, the game wouldn't come out until "Summer 2010" for North America.  That means that Gran Turismo 5 could be released anytime between June and September 2010.

First announced during the E3 2006, the game has been a long time coming for fans of the series as it promises up to 1,000 cars and over 70 unique tracks.  It will also include rally racing and, for the first time, Nascar.

March 2010 already promises to be jam-packed with hot new games for the Playstation 3 including Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III.  Moving Gran Turismo 5 back to the summer may have been a strategic move more than a development move.

A demo of Gran Turismo 5 will be available for download next week.

Great move by Sony. It would've slowed down the sales of other great games. They need to spread their Q1 games out more, and this is a great start for them.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Gran Turismo always launch first in Japan.

It cannot be "pushed back" because there was never any set release date for NA.

Anyway, I think this is great. Sony has a great lineup for H1 2010 in NA and PAL. Release GT5 in March for Japan then release it in late Summer for NA and PAL to build momentum for the holiday season.

2011 Predictions

Wii: 17m (100 million total)

360: 13m (63 million total)

PS3: 15m (61 million total)

Probably a good m... WOW nice avatar Wass ... a good move.

Doesn't really shock me. They're releasing MAG in January, White Knight and Heavy Rain in Feb, GoW3 in March, Eyepet in April, and we don't even know where they'll pencil in Modnation Racers [and a few other announced games but we probably won't see those early in the year]. My guess is April since Eyepet is early April. Let's not forget they have to spread their games across the batch of 3rd party offerings coming.

A late Aug release similiar to Batman AA this past yr would be a good date. Kick off the end of summer and start of sept with a kick ass exclusive.

Does anybody know why this game isn't going to get a worldwide simultaneous launch? This is supposed to be the biggest game on the PS3, so why would Sony not try to launch all at once to create a worldwide synergy?

Why does it say pushed back? I didn't know we had a firm date already...
