Forums - Gaming - Now that we got a glimps of Halo: Reach how do you think it'll sell?

This was the Uncharted 2 teaser shown at VGA last year

Despite not a single ounce of gameplay or even a hint as to what to expect in the game every single person on these forums went crazy over that teaser. Now VGA shows the first 2 minutes of the opening cinematic for Halo Reach and all you can see is people complaining about the trailer, even though Bungie said there would be no gameplay shown. I mean you even claim that the graphics are barely better than Halo 3, ummm are you blind or do you have a really crappy monitor/tv?

If you don't see why some people are extremely happy with what they saw then I doubt you are as big a fan of the franchise as you claim. Just to make things interesting I'm willing to bet you that Halo Reach sells more than 4 million copies if it is released by September 2010. You willing to take that bet?

I would rather see actual game play, as cinamatic trailers just don't impress me. You don't play the cut scenes after all.

But it really doesn't matter as we will be getting a MP Beta which will let us know how big a step up from Halo 3 it really is.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I highly doubt it'll outsell Halo: ODST, there really isn't anything promising that came from that first trailer. Graphics didn't seem much better at all either even though it's suppose to be upgraded. Nothing inspiring, same old same old, I'd say stick to Halo 3.

4 million LTD MAX.

It'll have more sales than that before the end of its first week.

Going by the trailer, it looks like a pretty standard Halo game so I think it'll sell like a standard Halo game, between 8 and 10 million.

Yeah that Uncharted 2 trailer looked pretty bad and we all saw how great that game came to be.

Graphically Reach so far looks amazing but what was disappointing about the trailer was that we wanted to see more about the game play and story. This wasn't even a real trailer but more of an intro.

As for 4 million ltd, if Halo ODST can reach those numbers when it was suppose to be an expansion pack (and was made with an old game engine), Halo Reach (which is made from the ground up with a new engine) can pass that easily since it will be marketed by MS like it was an actual sequel.

I agree that they could have used a better video for their opening reveal of Halo Reach, a true trailer perhaps. However Bungie stated well before VGA that they were showing the opening cutscene to Halo Reach all rendered using in game graphics but that there would be no actual gameplay. Knowing that beforehand I was completely satisfied with what they showed us.

As for sales, I have no idea what the OP is on but it must be strong. Like you said if ODST, a game using an engine thats two years old with no true online multiplayer of its own and far less hype and advertising than Halo 3 managed to sell over 2 million opening day then imagine what Reach can do. I don't think the OP's going to take my bet though, I think he's just trying to get a rise out of us and stealth troll a bit probably.

LOL. That is an absolutely ridiculous claim. Game will be incredible. And as has been stated before, and will probably need to be stated again, it wasn't a trailer, it was the opening cinematic from the game.

Are you crazy? It looked far and away better then Halo 3! Do you not remember how bad that game looks?!?! No, it's not as good looking as a lot of 360 fans are screaming, but it's still amazing considering it will no doubt have at least four person co-op. Also, 4 million LTD?!?! You can not be serious! It will easily outsell ODST, although I don't see it outselling Halo 3. If I had to say anything I would guess 8 million LTD but it's so far away to make any actual predictions. I'm a regular detractor of Halo 3 as I was super hyped for it and thought that it was pretty much garbage. This looked great though. Get over it.

PS3 Trophies

As I said before, if they went ahead and showed gameplay now, what would Microsoft show us at E3 that we haven't already seen besides different environments? They probably wouldn't let Bungie show anything significant for that reason, and why should they? The game is still about a year away...
