The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess!
Better than Ocarina of Time!
Errrrrppp... Ooo... Tough one, guv'nor.
Best remains Ocarina of Time. Although it's aged and Twilight Princess is a superior game, no game has matched feeling of playing it for the first time and no game has done so much brilliantly.
Metroid Prime came close to that feeling, as did Mario Galaxy. They're my top 3 best videogames, I think.
Personal favourite games include the four mentioned, as well as Skies of Arcadia, Beyond Good and Evil and Advance Wars.

There is a trip throught the way back machine. X-Com was a really good game. In it's own way, it would still hold up too. It was one of the first PC games I ever played (not counting my early Mac Infocom games). The Witcher is a decent game, but nothing earth shattering. It seemed like it was trying to be an RPG but went through stages almost like a shooter. I thought Mass Effect did a better job, it's only problem was that if a person was good at targeting with a controller, the game got very easy at times. I also disagree with you about MGS4. While the cutscenes are WAY overdone and WAY too long with bad dialog, the game play elements are still strong and thats what ultimately carries the game into being a pretty good game. I give that post a 9.4. |
See I can't say MGS4 had good gameplay. It was great. The problem was all the fucking talking.. and talking... and talking... 10 hours of friken talking. That makes me rate it as a movie, given how I spent more time watching that than I did the Godfather. As such it is utter crap. FF:Spirits Within was better than MGS4. As you know the FF movie sucked, so that says a lot. Gameplay was good, now if only Snake good stfu and Kojima learns how to make story for a game then it would have been a freaking amazing game. I read that he wanted to be a director, and thank god he wasn't cause he would have been worse tha Uwe Boll (look at his newest movie not based on a game).
As for the Witcher, it wasn't an open world RPG but neither do I see how you went by stages as a shooter.

Definitely FF7
This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*
I hate these threads. It's like picking one of your child to be your favourite.
I want to say this about Chrono trigger though:
Chrono Trigger I played for the first time last year (it never came out in the EU) and it will probably be my only JRPG for some time, perhaps ever. From the momentI got into the time machine i was hooked. It's not my best game ever but to me, it is the game I would recommend playing to anyone to take their first steps into JRPG land.
It is not my most favourite game.
I'd give that title to Ocarina of Time. this was the defining title, the one that got me into games. I played on my snes before... all Mario's, street fighter, mortal kombat just all the classics (though I missed A link to the Past and Super metroid). I even played Mario 64 and Goldeneye prior which got me hooked bad.
But OCarina of time was the first game to show me what games and gaming were capable of in terms of story, emotion, technology and overall feel of... epicness. It got me from one amazement into another and made me realize that gaming can rival any art form.
But in terms of best... well that is a different story. I sank most hours either into Ocarina of time or Battlefield 1942 but best ever? I don't know, though Ocarina will always be a contender for that spot.

I hate to admit it, but for me it would be World of Warcraft... I have never played a game that reached 10% of the amount of time I put into that game...
I base this on the amount of FUN I had playing that game. I have yet to experience a game that was as fun for as long as that game.
