Now that I think about it, the hype Nintendos big historical franchises are getting is almost non existent, like Zelda ST was the least talked Zelda ever. Same with MP3, and NSMBWii was also showed a couple months before release. I dont know why they insist with the secrecy.

NSMBWii was announced at E3 09, plenty of time to create hype. Nintendo released lots of videos (by nintendo standards anyways) and talked about it a lot. Plenty of interviews, Iwata Asks, and more. Heck, it already sold 3m units, and I'm sure it will sell a lot more, so why hype the gaming crowd for years? If they say something about the game, then find out they want to take that out, fans will be upset. Secrecy lets them create the game they want, while keeping the competition guessing about what is coming next. Just go look at who is playing catchup and who isn't and you'll see why Nintendo benefits from secrecy.

I agree about major franchises, but what about games they publish such as Excitebots?

as explained above. Companies advertise big games, and don't advertise small games. It seems to be standard business practice, but for some reason Nintendo never gets held to the same standard. Remember, hype = advertising. If they don't have the advertising budget, then they can't hype the game. Bigger games get bigger advertising budgets, and therefore get more hype. Heck, Motorstorm Artic Edge, and the latest Ratchet & Clank both launched to minimal hype. Afrika was hyped before it released in Japan, then completely fell of the charts.

To top it off, hyping a game that flops is just bad. Had Nintendo hyped Excitebots and it failed, would you listen to them for the next game they hyped?

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

@nordlead

but rachet and clank did get shown at E3 right? it wasnt announced in a release list. At E3 they focuse don games that appealed to casuals, excitebots would have fitted in there. And then they have a fall event trying to make it up to core gamers, and show punhcout,trace memory and s&p2 but not excitebots which came out before all those games! it doesnt make sense.

reggie has said he wished fire emblem and battalion wars sold more so im hoping S&P2 and endless ocean 2 get some marketing

Now that you mention it, I haven't seen any marketing for any of those Sony games. This year I have seen, Madden, LBP, Killzone2, MGS4, and Uncharted 2, and maybe an MLB game. Outside of that, nothing.
