Forums - Gaming - Pachter Time kids!!! Take 2 made a bad move with the MLB singing

Because baseball is not as big as Football, Basketball or Soccer.... wait wasn't this sport the national pastime?

"They could try to cut corners on quality and marketing, but my guess is that they wouldn't save enough to offset the corresponding loss of sales. It's pretty clear that they signed an unprofitable deal, and they are stuck with it. Take-Two made the mistake of thinking baseball was as big as NFL, FIFA or NBA. I don't think any other publisher thought so, which led to Take-Two being stuck with ‘winner's remorse' when it won the bidding war for the MLB exclusive. They can try all they want to get out of the deal with MLB, but a contract is a contract, and nothing short of bankruptcy will get them out of the deal. Since they aren't likely to go bankrupt any time soon, they are stuck with the terms of the deal they signed. It's really no different than a professional sports team signing a big name athlete who underperforms. They're stuck with the contract regardless." -

People finally found baseball boring?

Sounds about right, I've no idea what the terms of the contract were but Baseball is hardly top of the sports genre.

Do Sony have rights on this too or is that some other American sport I have no idea about?

2K's quality has not been what it once way -- which must be hurting sales.

Plus, it probably paid a large sum for third-party baseball exclusivity -- especially since it sells in the range of NHL and well below the other sports that Pachter mentioned.

How many years did they sign this for?

From what I hear (and have experienced), EA should've won the MLB license for what was a superior baseball game in MVP and 2K should've won the NFL license for the impeccable NFL 2KX.

Maybe there's a sensible alternate reality out there with this happened . . .

"Since they aren't likely to go bankrupt any time soon, they are stuck with the terms of the deal they signed."

Wrong again.

I would blame the crappiness of their baseball games over the details of this deal deal. There's a reason MLB: The Show on ps3 outsells 2K on 360 in the US.

It's more so because the games suck and The Show has gotten better every year.

Baseball has historically been the worst out of the sports games realm.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The sony games are usually some of the best sports games released yearly..

MLB09 received very good reviews, AAA reviews.

it is strange why there isn't a baseball game as big as say madden/fifa/pro seeing as it is just as big a sport.....

its annoying as they never sell any copies of baseball games over here in the uk,i don't play madden/nba but i would play MLB the show,i guess i'll have to import it sometime
