Forums - Gaming - November NPD = VGChartz Adjustments and 360 outselling PS3 in Americas?!

It shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone. One of the biggest games this gen releases with an exclusive bundle on the 360, coupled with a sale on arcades from Wal*Mart and Amazon.

Not to mention this is the USA and MW2 is a shooter.

I'm think imma go and make a thread at how surprised I am the PS3 outsold the 360 by 10 to 1 in Japan!?

1. I think they are close to not care.
2. Both groups are estimating and neither is actually perfect, therefore read #1.

That'd be silly, though, because that was never disputed.  I posted this because VGchartz has PS3 above 360 for November in Americas, but NPD has 360 above PS3 by quite a bit (NPD 360 amount was more than the total VGC Americas 360 amount).

Based on NPD, November 360 sales in JUST the US alone (not full Americas) was 14k higher than the VGChartz estimate.  Very close estimation, ioi, I applaud you.   What this does show, however, is that some adjustments of maybe ~25k+ should be made to the 360 number and likewise a decent chunk removed from the PS3 number.  Xbox 360 still wins November over the PS3 even with Black Friday sales?!

Also, MW2 was a beast and 360 version sold 3x PS3 version in the US (not unexpected).

November 2009 Hardware Sales

  • Nintendo DS -- 1,700,000
  • Wii -- 1,260,000
  • Xbox 360 -- 819,500
  • PlayStation 3 -- 710,400
  • PlayStation Portable -- 293,900
  • PlayStation 2 -- 203,100

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 01st Nov 2009 to 28th Nov 2009:

Console PS3 X360
America
840,249
805,161

can some 1 explain me how it works i dont think all makes sense up there

does npd and vgc track North america as a whole meaning cananda mexico ect or just the 50 states?

i think vgc tracks it as a whole and npd does not is this true

proof http://news.vgchartz.com/news.php?id=6137 why doesnt ioi say 840k and 805k in there?

In the preview he is putting what he thinks north America numbers will be (basically what he thinks npd numbers will be), whereas vgc numbers have cannada and mexico too. (and some other places I think too)

@BHR-3

thats UA only

counting Canada & mexico PS3 numbers are spot on

while 360 numbers would eb over 900K

360 massively under-tracked!!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I know it would be. I don't really have intentions on making that thread. I just don't find it surprising, or how anybody could. America's a lost cause for PS3, likewise Japan for X360. The real battle is in Others.

Even more reason to take ALL (not just vgchartz) sales estimations with a grain of salt.

I think NPD did include walmart in their numbers. It will take a couple weeks to figure out where this information came from, because VGC does track walmart sales, and if NPD is spot on with VGC, without even tracking WM, then the numbers will be a lot higher.

I think NPD estimated walmart sales. Whether they overtracked it, or whether we undertracked it is up for debate. Let's see what NPD has to say about this.
