but I bet you started writing an elaborate answer, amirite?

Anyway, I'll be the bigger man and write one:

Megaman x and x2 (not including x3 cuz I've never played it) are better than the standard franchise games because everything was improved upon. Weapon strategy and diversity was improved, finding hidden items were much more rewarding, the tiered system of armor/equip upgrade made it possible to explore more, enemies were very interesting, graphics were amazing, and the story, while not wasting too much of the player's time, was deeper and more interesting.

Actually no, I didn't start writing an elaborate answer. But since you've proven to be smart enough to back up your opinion I suppose I could tell you why you're wrong:

Mega Man X didn't improve upon everything. It switched genre completely. The classic series are pure platformers, while the X series are much more action-driven. Sure, the changes that were made suited the new style of play just fine, but they totally moved the focus.

I wouldn't ever try to say that Mega Man X is in any way deeper than Mega Man 9. I wouldn't say that the weapon "strategy" or diversity are better, either. When it comes to finding hidden items and exploring the levels, well my point stands there, as well. Different genres. Classic series were never designed to have those things. And about the story? Mega Man games (at least the classic series) put their main emphasis in two areas: Style and gameplay. Story isn't part of that.

In short: You're wrong in your statement that X is better because they are two entities that aren't really comparable, since they are too different.

Oh ok, well as long as it is equally shared that neither can be better than the other, then I will accept and recant my original statement.

Still, I liked what X offered more than what the originals offered.

PS: your comment about story is a little weak. I'll accept it as a minimal style approach, but, in personal preference, I appreciate a teeny bit of story to go along with mindlessly killing stuff.

I am with disolitude on this one. Throwing shit up through the hole during mid jump is cheap as shit. I really am not in the mood to memorize shit while I am playing games anymore. So you either have to act like they are going to throw shit at you on every jump, or memorize where they do it. I chose to not buy it instead.

Well, then the Mega Man classic series simply isn't your cup of tea. Inafune himself said that when creating Mega Man he wanted to make something that was just stylish, compared to other, more story-heavy games of the time such as for example Dragon Quest.

Personally I generally prefer this approach when it comes to platformers, and especially when it comes to Mega Man.

Don't get me wrong. I like, nay, LOVE the original MM series, but I think they could've used 5 more lines of text.

I mean, MM2 is called "the mystery of Dr. Wily", and yet....well, you probably don't care, but it feels like back in the day when a story just simply couldn't fit in a game without sacrificing something. 5-10 lines of text would force them to remove 1-2 rooms, but whatever.

That reason just feels rationalizing rather than supporting. My opinion.

Oh well, I suppose we can agree to disagree on that one =)

What remains to be seen is if this follows the previous pattern or a new pattern. In other words, will a PSN/XBLA announcement be forthcoming.

If this were a WiiWare exclusive, that would make a big statement. But my money is on the multiplatform statement.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Mega Man 9 is awesome and people who could not beat it are weaklings. I am not saying this just to dump on the haters, I'm saying this because it's true. It's not even the hardest game in the series - the shop basically lets you "break" every difficult aspect of the game, all you need are the screws to buy the right items. Keep falling on spikes? Buy the spike shoes and you'll survive a meeting with them. Keep falling into holes? Buy Beat and he'll rescue you from a pit. Bosses too hard? Buy half damage armor, all attacks will do half the damage when activated.

Seriously, these piss easy games these days are turning gamers into whiny pussies.

Also, I like classic and X. I don't have to give one up for the other, because I'm awesome like that and get to experience the best of both worlds. So there.
