@ Daffy: I believe in the NPD thread it was stated that Wal-Mart is at least estimated by NPD. There's no way NPD would estimate Wal-Mart without taking account of the Wal-Mart deal. All it means is that they don't receive actual sales data from Wal-mart. It is pretty ridiculous to think that an organisation claiming to provide accurate gaming hardware sales data for the USA would simply ignore Wal-Mart and Amazon all together.
On the Article: Interesting he says they'll "continue to remain $100 cheaper than PS3". Putting a line in the sand that Arcade will drop if PS3 drops. But will Arcade drop even if PS3 doesn't?
"we're now seeing stabilization back to more typical marketshare levels. And I think that's really driven by the fact that we have a $199 SKU." Oh, come on. Seriously? Even if PS3 under sold 360 on Black Friday it would be a wrong statement. USA marketshare average sales is 1.6:1. At best sales are stabilising at 1.1:1 in favour of 360 at the moment. That's a significant change in market share not a return to more typical levels. And of course he can only be talking about the USA given world wide 360 is behind and looking to remain that way, and that has not been 360's typical market share position for about a year.
Greenberg was pretty contemptuous about GT5. Disappointing, but I guess not unexpected. His credibility would have been better served had he simply said "GT5 will sell well, but it won't do better than Halo: Reach". I can respect that sort of comment, and he's probably right.
When a thread title mentions "PS3" and "GT5" and "bold comments" in relation to a MS exec interview, why is it surprising or worthy of criticism if people interested in PS3 and GT5 who don't normally inhabit the MS discussion forum read, comment on and are critical about some of the PR spin that in such a thread?
