Forums - Sales - Beatles Rock Band has only sold "over 1 million units worldwide to date."

Rock Band publisher MTV Games confirmed to Gamasutra that Boston-based Harmonix laid off 39 workers, or 13 percent of total staff on Thursday, a move "unrelated" to any supposed lagging sales of the studio's product line, a representative for the company said.

The rep for Harmonix and its owner MTV Games said that Harmonix's most recent release in association with EA Partners, The Beatles: Rock Band in particular is doing just fine at retail, with sales of "over 1 million units worldwide to date." The title launched on 9/9/09.

That's pathetically low for a game that was supposed to be huge. Didn't they shell out eight figures just to acquire the license? And I hope he's referring to "sold to customer" figures...

And I guess this means the Beatles is being overtracked here. Unless the quote refers to solely the Wii version, which doesn't seem to be the case.

prof that rock band and guitar hero are getting boring maybe?

But they're The Beatles!

If one of them released this back in 2007 or 2008, this game actually could have been huge. Now, even The Beatles can't recapture the lost success of rhythm games. I suppose people don't want to buy games that cost as much as a new console during a global recession. Priorities, and whatnot. Also, this doesn't indicate that the game is overtracked at all.

lol i think buying there greatest hits would be much cheaper

But we're IN the holidays, and this is up to today's date. There are only two weeks left until Christmas...
