Forums - Microsoft - 360 Owners: Lost Odyssey vs Final Fantasy XIII

To get this out of the way first, no I am not talking about metacritic averages or review scores. Lost Odyssey got reviews ranging from the mid 9s all the way down to a 5, but most of the complaints levied at the game were that it was too traditional and amass with technical issues and extensive loading. The loading at least is now fixed with installs and for those who were looking for a traditonal JRPG experience Lost Odyssey played like and felt like a Final Fantasy game (how good of a Final Fantasy game varries from person to person), even if it took no chances.

There are a lot of 360 owners who called the game the "true Final Fantasy XIII" back before FFXIII was announced to be multiplat, largely because the game was made by the Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and the music composed by Nobuo Uematsu, neither of whom have any involvement in Final Fantasy XIII despite building the series up through FFX.

So here's the question, which game do you think you will like better? Obviously this is a prediction thread since FFXIII isn't released yet, but here are the categories (written for the things generally most important in JRPGs).

Characters:
Story:
Music:

Of course, I can't say for sure, but I think it'll go something like this:

Characters: Lost Odyssey
Story: Lost Odyssey
Music: ... I really can't say
Gameplay: Final Fantasy XIII
Style (atmostphere/setting/feel of the game): Final Fantasy XIII
Overall: ... I really can't say

Obviously Final Fantasy 13.

I loved LO, I will love XIII, I don't want direct comparisons

LO was a really old school game, FF XIII will be more of an action RPG

FFXIII is definitely not an action RPG by any stretch of that genre. It uses a fairly basic turn based system where you slot commands together which are executed when the command bar is full. It's basically a minor evolution to the combat system of Chrono Trigger, which has been the basis for RPG combat systems in FF games since its release.

Well......its one ACTION-PACKED turn-based battle system.

It is certainly more actiony than FF X or LO (my 2 favourite jRPGs that I have played). Your character can move while you play, and the general pace is more akin to an action RPG, though yes, labelling it an action RPG would be wrong

it will be hard for FF XII to have a character like Jansen. FF music is not the same without uematsu
