Forums - Nintendo - Wii vs. GCN first party games

Agree with your list, save that Prime 1 > Prime 2 >>>> Prime 3, and that Sunshine wasn't that bad (Galaxy's still better though).

But my problem is that of the four main series for me (Mario, SSB, Metroid, Paper Mario), 2 out of 3 were so bad I couldn't finish them. And I don't like Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Music, Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars, or Animal Crossing. And Mario Kart was meh, better than Double Dash but inferior to MKDS.

Perhaps it's because they use said money to put lots of time into games, instead of shitting them out after short development cycles as many devs do, that the lineup has been "weak" over the past two years?

I mean, Other M has been in development since 2006, they said in an interview. SMG2 would probably be 2007 or early 2008. Zelda Wii, since 2006 or 2007 or something, who knows.

Nintendo takes their time developing games, and doesn't rush them out for yearly releases like Activision or EA do - wasn't that much obvious by this point?

Other M is being dev'd by Tecmo, so that point doesn't hold.

The work on SMG2 wouldn't have been NEARLY as much as on SMG since the core mechanics and engine is the same.

Now I agree with the Zelda Wii part, but that's just one game.

We haven't seen a game of significant production value in 2years. Read that sentance again and then consider this: It took Naugty Dog 1.5 years to dev Uncharted 2. If this paragraph doesn't 'do it' for you, then nothing will.

No sly comments about me bringing up U2 please. I think it's a very good point that the game of the year was wholly developed and released within the Wii's dry spell. Especially considering that the recources required to dev said game are much higher than any (that's a guess) Wii game to date.

Oh, and you Metroid Wii > Metroid GC is also slightly rediculous. I for one LURVED Prime 3, but Prme 1 was WAY ahead of it's time and it was new and fresh.

Republishing something doesn't count in this argument.

Punch-Out? NSMB Wii? Sin and Punishment 2? Wii Sports Resort? Excitebots?

Also, Other M is a joint project between Team Ninja and Nintendo, not just Team Ninja on its own.

Ok I'm out.

people complain that there are not enough 3rd party support which is not something nintendo can control and there is no reason for them to give money to devs to support their console like MS does since they've never been short on cash when it came to profits.

they are already having to control what they release so they don't destroy the 3rd party which is nintendo doing them a favor already, if they really came out with awesome games every other month, 3rd party support would goto zero because they can't compete with nintendo quality in general, it's bluntly impossible. all this from them just rehashing their games and they still get awesome review scores in general, think about that, nintendo was never the problem and they will continue to not be the problem.

I liked MK DD more than MK Wii for some reason.....

Nintendo still doomed?

3rd parties shouldnt be compared to GC. They should be compared to the market leaders of previous gens.

PS1 and/or PS2.

That's how I would have thought as well, but it's now clear that they're uncomparable. Third party publishers don't like the Wii for two main reasons, it's not similar enough to the competition (ie. it's not easy to port HD games to it), and it has a very strong first party (who make games to sell consoles, not solely for profit, hence a higher standard).

So Wii owners can and should only make comparisons with overall software, and console themselves with the fact that Wii first party is very strong.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

S&P2 is not made by Nintendo, and why not count Wind Waker and 4 Swords in the Zelda comparison?
