I want some freakin ACTION, man. After playing Phantom Hourglass for a few hours, it amazes me how little action is in the game. I miss the fun that the old 2D Zeldas gave us from killing enemies. Make the combat more fun! (see Wii Sports Resort for ideas)
No vehicles to traverse the overworld, please. No boats, and no trains! I don't need meaningless timesinks in my games (does anyone enjoy traveling this way?). I'll be very disappointed if Zelda Wii's overworld is anything like the DS games or Wind Waker.
On that note, make the overworld more interesting. Load it up with enough baddies that the threat of death outside is real.
I want a simpler game. Puzzles are fine, but I'd like a little more focus on the combat. Less emphasis on the story would be great, too. That doesn't mean I don't want a story, but it shouldn't get in the way too much (beginning of Twilight Princess = bad). Shadow of the Colossus is a good example of a game that tells an awesome story without lengthy cutscenes in the way. I mean, does Zelda really need that much text to kick ass?
Basically, I want a spiritual sequel to NES's The Legend of Zelda! While the Ocarina formula is great, I'd prefer something different, especially since Twilight Princess is already on the Wii. Even with all its flaws, Zelda remains one of my favorite series, so if a game did all the above, I can't imagine it not being one of my favorite games ever.
Besides, I'm pretty sure it'd sell truckloads this way (probably the best selling Zelda ever). If you look at the Wii's top sellers, they're all arcade-style games, much like the NES. The "NES Mario" is going to completely destroy the cinematic Mario (Galaxy) in sales, I imagine an "NES Zelda" could do the same to the cinematic Twilight Princess. If Nintendo is going to continue making both cinematic Mario and arcade Mario, can we get the same treatment from Zelda?
Ah, I can dream, can't I...?
